    Note the word DESIRE. I give up freedom because I have to or need to. I never give it up without questioning the reasons. Theie are many that willingly give away their rights and freedoms in exchange for protection from the government.

    Alot of small businesses do not have internet connections. Having IE* does not mean you have an Internet Connection. BTW: Almost all that I come in contact with have Windows 98SE.

    I do some projects with companies in other countries (Venezuela, Brazil, ...). I have yet to do business with a company that has an OS later than Windows 98. These poorer countries/businesses(US as well) simply can't afford to upgrade. Unlike most "consumer-minded" Americans, there are a lot of people out there who actually can not see any benefit in upgrading from an OS that does what they need.

    Windows 98 works fro most small business needs (especially if they are not on the internet). I believe that this also applies to Office 97. I still use Office 2000 and OpenOffice.

    The only thing I can think of is the loss of anonymity. This coupled with logging of hops (from/to) would pretty much end most of these problems... IMHO.

    My broadband proider prohibits connection "sharing". While this would be easy to hide in your home (proxy, IP sharing) I think a business would be a different matter.

    I would ask what the "extra" charge from a provider would be.

    Most of them are using AOL, Earthlink or MSN anyway... I do believe that this is DIRECT DIAL as well.

    My systems are behind a Hardware Proxy and a software firewall. I feel safe and have not been compromised... yet.

    Those poor home users who are not technically savvy are pretty screwed. They won't be able to figure out *nix and don't want to pay the bucks for Apple.

    Microsoft should offer (no not MSN) a method for new Windows machines to dial direct for patches before connecting to the Internet.

    This method should be over ridable for the safer crowd.

    Six years ago the company I was working at hired an "efficiency expert" (yeah... yeah... the Bobs). This person spent three weeks interviewing people and taking notes. In the end he recommended letting our IT Manager go because he was wasteful.

    The company did NOT follow his recommendations... one month later the BOB submitted his resume for IT Manger.

    People suck.

    I am a programmer who understands companies wanting to get cheaper labor. Let's face it, Indians are getting good, Russians where always good. Soon China will take Indian jobs....blah... blah... blah.

    Here's my problem. I don't want my Credit Information, Health Information, Criminal Records.... in a country that does not have to abide by the laws of the United States.

    I know that their are bad people in the US, but if they get caught, they go to jail.

    ISS was astupid idea. We Americans don't get along very well with other... all their delays and stupid ruls. If we "go it alone" we would do a MUCH better and faster job.

    Please keep in mind that if the US did not care about the civilians or collateral damage... IRAQ would be gone and ZERO US soldiers would be hurt.

    We probably would not care to rebuild Europe in the event of a US vs. EU war.

    I refused a contract that stated any hardware and software used in the creation of the product was the property of the company. They required me to supply my own laptop and cell phone.

    How the hell to you get rated "Score:2"? If a government designed a virus to infect people with a certain "flaw" in their DNA... is it the persons fault for having the flaw or is it the damn designers of the virus.

    I wanted to start a BLOG so I had to think... I shouldn't write anything that I wouldn't want my KIDS to read. I shouldn't write anything that I wouldn't want my WIFE to read. I shouldn't write anything that I wouldn't want my EMPLOYER to read. I shouldn't write anything that I wouldn't want the BUSINESS COMMUNITY to read.
