Opressive??? You really need to stop smoke that whacky weed. Try comparing notes with a woman living in a Muslim controled country about oppression. Get real.
{Sarcasm} Oh yeah. The holocaust is the same thing as wiretapping. {/Sarcasm}
Get real people. This is not the government wire tapping Sarah from Alabama calling Pete in N.Y. City. The reason a vast majority of Americans don't have a problem with this is because they understand something I doubt you people do. Rather than see a bomb go off in some city in the United States, I would like to know why someone in America is getting a phone call from Al-Qaida. Plain and simple!
Fact is, if something did happen you would be blaming Bush for not doing "everything possible" to stop it! You blame Bush for 9/11, and you people for some reason forget that the terrorists started attacking the U.S. under the Clinton administation. Remember the bombings at all the embassies around the world? Remember the bombing of the USS Cole? What was Bill Clinton's big a terrible responce? He lobbed a couple of missles at an empty building! Bin Laden considers America a paper tiger because of Clinton!!!
Recently, Al-Qaida offered a truce in one of there messages. Do you think terrorists who thinks they are winning against their enemies will offer a truce? Nope. We are winning the war on terror. There is a war on terror, and America was late to even recognise it. You figure if someone was hitting you in the stomach you might take notice.
Actually, you lose because that doesn't look at the bigger picture. If you go back far enough you have 1 celled organisms according to evolution. These must evolve into something else, and eventually you have mdern day animals, insects, etc. So my argument is still correct. How do they know humans are related to monkeys? Is it because our DNA is similar or because we have similar triats? Ever consider these traits may have come from different origins? You also missed my point. If you believe in evolution, you must believe in macro-evolution. There is no if ands or buts about it. Somewhere along the lines species differentiate themselves from each other. You can't go from a one celled organism to modern day life without one species splitting into two.
You also didn't read my argument correctly. I never said fish become birds or the like. I am simply refering to stuff like what scientist call early humans are considered a common anncestor with apes and stuff like that. Last I heard life began in the sea according to scientists. If this is true, there must be a line of evolution from a creature of the ocean to birds. I never said it would be instantaneous, or one step. Most of the critics of evolution, such as myself, are simply pointing out stuff like the "very wide" gaps in the theory of how various things evolved. There are still a lot of missing links in the evolutionary chains. Mark my posts as flaimbait, but it still doesn't change the validity of my arguments.
There is a problem looking for this missing link because you must already be committed to the idea that a missing link exists. This is an important observation because all analysis of early hominids are based on certain assumptions. The search assumes the truth of evolution, and it assumes, because of evolution, that if there are morphological similarities (similarities in the bodies) that these similarities imply a biogenetic relationship and ancestry.
... My problem with this point is that the picture is not just suggested--the picture in this case being evolution--it is asserted as being the only possibility. Then the evidence is made to fit, much of the time, into the picture in order to affirm evolution. I think fossil men is an example of those cases.
You can do more research if you want, but I doubt you will because, like other worshipers of evolution, you think you are 100% correct./.ers can moderate me as flaimbait all they want. It will not change the truth. I highly doubt even read the articles.
I know I will take a mega-karma hit for this, but I am not affraid to speak my mind.
Macro evolution still has not been proven. All they have done is take two distinct set of bones and say one came before the other. They do not have any intermediate stages or anything. To believe in evolution you must believe that life came from nothing at all with out any design. Everything about the world around us screams that it was designed, and is a machine. A machine which we keep on breaking. Only teaching evolution limits how we think about the world around us, and can keep us from finding discoveries.
Look at stem cell research. A lot of people in the scientific community, and here on slashdot, were singing (and worshiping, at the altar of embrionic stem cell research). You looked down on those who were against it. Those who were against it and said there were other lines of stem cell research that were more promising. All the recent stem cell advances have been in non-embrionic stem cell research.
My point is this, the draconian, pig-headed scientists who worshiper evolution may not be right. They refuse to see even the smallest problems in evolution. The follow it blindly like a religion, and for some it is safe to say it is their religion above all else. Even when pressed with obvious problems (such as how life began), the deeper you dig they eventually have to admit they don't know. It is time scientist take an open mind and start admitting they could be wrong.
ID will not go away. There are scientists who believe in it, and the more it shows up in court, the more attention it will bring. In the long run, hopefully, the scientists who think it is worth looking into, and believe in it (not for religous reasons), will come out into the open and start speaking up. Then maybe you pig-head evolution worshipers might open your minds. Bring back competing ideas in science.
There are plenty of people willing to boycott Walmart. It is usually those people who have the conviction to stand up for what they believe. Walmart will do what ever it takes to insure it doesn't piss-off what it considers as it's customer base. If a significantly sized group of this base reacts to something, like say foul language in a CD, then Walmart decides not to sell that cd. In return, the artist, record company, or some other party with a financial involvement/interest will changes things so as to not lose the potential market. Both of these choices Walmart's & the person with the financial interest are usually done in a way to avoid hurting the potential for financial gain.
As for the barrier, nudity & violence are really the signs of a poor writer--whether it is tv, movies, or games. Some of the best games that last the test of time (or at least produce a lot of sequals) don't have a lot of nudity in them. Take Final Fantasy & Civilization for example. In the modern market nudity & violence have been the tools used to lure in the masses to the product in question. It doesn't require as much thought as putting in a situation that avoids it. It's cheap thrills. As P. T. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." Personally I think both the movie & entertainment industry need a rewrite in the rating used, and I know I am not the only one.
Everyone can point the finger. If game producers didn't create games that causes people to think twice--once their kid has started playing it because the game box looed harmless, this would not be an issue. 80 to 90% of the games produced today are just plain stupid with lacking in imagination and creativity. Instead, the rely on killing people and such to get kids to ask for it.
Whether you like it, or not, this is a somewhat capitalistic society, and if place like Walmart find out that they'll get boycotted for the violent games they sell, you bet the Walmarts will ask for "toned down" versions. Walmart does the same thing with music. The almighty buck determines what gets bought, and while a lot of people buy these games, I doubt the walmarts of the country would risk other sales just so you can buy the latest cop killer game.
No teverybody has the money to shell out for the latest and greatest in hardware. My point is that it seems the Java worshipers seem to be testing Java on the lastest and greatest which may not be the average system.
Smallville--Sucks big time. Not even worth mentioning. I consider it like I consider battlestar Galactica 1980...it doesn't exhist. The same goes for Lois & Clark! Enough already. Why do they need to remake the same tired movie and "beginnings" just so they can throw in their "new values" into it?!?!
If I see this at all, it will be by renting, or watching, it after a friend has rented it. I have seen the "orgins story" of superman in both cartoon & movies enough. Why can't they make a movie out of his death from the comics series in the 1990s???? Here's a briliant idea...make a completely new script with a new storyline that has nothing to do with the origins of Superman!!! I hope this movies blow chunks, but unfortunately, the mindless zombies that go to most of the crapped called movies today will eat it up like it's brand new stuff!
It's not just China and India that limit free speech. Australia, and many other nations, have laws that prevent conservative evengelicals from speaking freely about their religion because of beliefs such as Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, homosexuality is a sin, and in some countries (especially Middle Eastern Countries) just saying your a Christian can mean severe problems and limits of speech including, but not limited to, death!
The United States is the only country int he World that currently has free speech, but that is slowly changing with growing number of people (especially progressives {liberals for those not "in the know"}) who think they have a right to not be offend that supercedes a persons right to free speech!
"Who is the major funder of the UN? The US." The UN has not had ONE major founder, but many. At least three countries were instrumental to allow its creation, namely the USA, the USRR and the United Kingdom - France, the rest of Europe and some assorted countries elsewhere (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, to name a few) coming in a secondary but important role (as regional powers who eventually dragged everybody else into it).
You missed the point. Without US dollars, the UN would go broke! The UN ran into problems when the US withheld its dues for a period of time. I think the US should withhold dues again until all those in the UN involved in the Oil for Food problems are removed...include the top brass.
In reference to the post, the EU is useless. It's an attempt to combine countries that have been feuding since the dawn written time.
I've had many professors say that Java is nowhere near as slow as it used to be, and that it was just a myth now that it is that much slower the C or another language that doesn't rely on VMs. In most applications, I guess it's actually equal enough to C to be considered as an alternative.
Have they used the same machine to compare the performance, of all the different versions, on each time they compared? Also, how fast was the machine? I have a feeling that some of the people are comparing Java using fast computers with a lot of memory. I have 3 (usuable) computers: 1 P2 350, 1 P3 900 (loaner), & 1 P4 3G. I would not even want to try to run a complex java application on the P2 & P3 machines. The P4 is fast enough where using a VM is not going to make a difference. If you want to compare a Java to C++ use a slower machine (less than a gig speed & memory) it's more realistic of what people might have at home. C/C++ will win hands down on slow machines. I might also note that this article is from IBM Developer works which continually promotes Java, and I doubt it's in the there best interests to say C++ is better.
I have never really been impressed with Software Development magazine. They seem to have stuff that I thought seems old--at least if you followed various internet sources. Plus they seem a little more fluff than stuff. Of course, it didn't help that nobody carried the magazine for a while. I never felt it was worth subscribing to annually. I currently subscribe to Dr. Dobbs (which I think should be a must for all software developers) and C++ Users Journal. I think it is worth the money to buy the CD containing all the previous issues plublished around the start or each year. I haven't settled on a Windows magazine or Linux magazine, and I haven't found a Java magazine that is worth a subscription.
I find that funny. I just compiled a short sample using VS 2005 Beta 2 team edition with no problems using strlen. I think the string.h versions were deprecated, but cstring header should not be considering it is a part of the standard. I tried both cstring & string.h. What version of the beta do you have.
It depends. It is inevitable that the computer will eventually become a tool where people of all trades will uses it to accomplish tasks. While they do that today, in the future, those getting a degree would be best suitted to learn some basic programming like scripting to be able to automate common tasks.
No matter what there strategy is, they did a great job on email. If google does IM as good as they have done email, the IM will be very good! They did a great job on email. I use the google email almost every day.
First, you are not taxed at 50%, unless you live somewhere outside of the United States. You are free to what you want with the other 50%, but you will eventually pay the consequences if you violate the law.
Second, you decide how your money is spent by voting for people who will spend the money how you want them to spend it. This includes the idea of voting for candidates that will reduce taxes and government spending.
Completely ignore the fact the a lot of teachers in colleges today push more liberal politics on campus than they do science. It would help if they sticted to science and teaching. Both of the extreme sides, left and right, have gotten away from science to spew there latest beliefs.
Do you know anything about history? Without Hiroshima, there would be very few Japanesee left. Men fought to the last, and women jumped from cliffs with babies. You need only look to invasions of other Japanessee Islands to know this. They were ready to fight to last person standing. In the end, the bombs help to change Japan and refocus them nationally away from the god/emperor ruler to more of a society where the people govern and ideas can be questioned by those with opinion who differ. If you want to learn more about how the Japanessee treated POWs read Ghost Soldier. It is a VERY good read, but it can be graphic at times, so you'd better have a good stomach.
Actually, what I was looking for (and had escaped my mind) was one of the following:
Library Extensions Technical Report 1
or
Library TR1
I knew TR stood for technical report. I have seen both of these refered to when introducing TR1 in articles--primarily in C/C++ Users Journal.
While I am mentioning it. You can download an older draft (January 2005) of TR1 here, and Scott Meyers has updated his page with information mapping items in TR1 to Effective C++ ( which is a must read for all C++ programmers).
Actually, some of the stuff is going into the library with TR1 (so technical release). C/C++ Users Journal has had a couple of articles on it in the last couple of months. I can't remember what the TR stands for at the moment, but all the stuff in it will reside in the std::tr1 namspace. They are anticipating on a TR2, TR3, etc because it is easier to get libraries passed than to actually change the language. If you read the background history on the Boost site, you will find out that Boost was created as a platform for future C++ libraries. If I remember correctly, tuples will be added with TR1. Possibly, variants will be too, but I am less sure on that one.
C++ is still far better than Java. What most people call Java benefits are truly it's drawbacks too. The least you could do is get the dates right. Here is a history of C++. From the article:
C++ was written by Bjarne Stroustrup at Bell Labs during 1983-1985. C++ is an extension of C. Prior to 1983, Bjarne Stroustrup added features to C and formed what he called "C with Classes". He had combined the Simula's use of classes and object-oriented features with the power and efficiency of C. The term C++ was first used in 1983.
Calling the theory of evolution "only a theory" is, strictly speaking, true
Says it all. The author does go on to try and explain it away, but it's too late. That statement speaks volumns.
Lack of proof isn't a weakness, either (Bold added for emphasis.)
Wow! Science is has come a long way. Now they don't require proof. So basically, according to this, Scientists can shovel any load of crap in our faces and claim it's true even without evidence.
