That was my first thought, but the license (referenced by the previous article) appears to only apply to solid state media, not hard drives.
The license, sure. But what about the patent itself? I suspect it's no real threat (VFAT is probably too widespread to get any kind of general licensing plan through the courts) but threats don't have to be real. I'm sure we've all heard of FUD.
USB flash drives are geek toys. Digital Cameras using FAT-formatted flash cards are much more common.
I disagree. My mother (an IT tutor BTW) uses a couple to transfer teaching material between home and college. Floppies are simply too small for the job, and none of the college machines are equipped with Zip/LS120/CD-RW or anything like that.
Flash cards in cameras and the like may be more common, but flash drives are certianly not restricted to being 'geek toys'. By the time CD-RW has become universal enough that you can count on using the discs everywhere, 700Mb USB flash will probably reasonably affordable.
The other failures did not involve airbags - Mars Observer was an orbiter that went silent some kind of problem with the thrusters is suspected to be the cause, but we'll never know for sure;
Never is a long time...
Mind you, knowing for sure is a pretty strong statement as well.

Note on terminology: Mean, median and mode are all averages. In a mathematical context, does usually mean mean, if you see what I mean. When you say 'average person', however, you generally mean typical, i.e. modal.
Well, mine was a just a piece of darin pipe with a tin of beans sellotaped over the one end. The propellant was butane (as in lighter refills). Stick a piece of cardboard over the bottom of an empty can so it *just* fits down the pipe, quick squirt of gas through a hole in the bean tin and light it with a lighter. It was surprisingly accurate over a range of a couple of dozen feet.:-) Add an iron weight to the top end of the can for more destructive power (managed to dispose of an old (I'm talking inch thick glass) TV this way), remove the cardboard for a bigger bang...:-) What must the neightbours have thought of us?
We tried to modify it to fire eggs and other stuff, but it was never quite the same as the cans.
The initial design was quite annoying because we had to hoover out the exhaust after every shot, and it only actally fired every 5 shots or so. Solution - 1: bayonet style fitting on the bean tin and rear load the thing so get fresh air in the back end and 2: spark it using an old camera flash:-)
This was, of course, the successor to the milk bottle rocket (butane powered as well) and the water barrel driven by methane from the cooker with just a quick squirt of deodorant.

Of course, rev can be used for that as well.

> Plus your average schmo will get into the habit of clicking OK so much it will cause him no end of problems. As opposed to now?
All pronouns defy the rule, which is a rule in itself. It's just that hi's and her's aren't real words, and you have to be smoking crack to write m'y
