  1. New theory on Feature: WH Panel Calls for Crypto Export Reform · · Score: 1

Apparently, now Slashdot articles can travel back in time. This article did have a timestamp of 3:32p on 8/31. I check /. an hour later, and the time has changed to 12:00p, 8/31.

Either the NSA's trying to break this article and the future of encrypted life as we know it, or there's an "undocumented feature" in /.

And I thought my day was weird enough already.

  2. Linus is around... on Linus Puts Shields Up · · Score: 1

I still see Linus floating around the comp.os.linux newsgroups every once and a while, especially when there's a kernel debate going on.

I'd like to see Gates go into the MS newsgroups using his real name :')

  3. A similar situation... on Ask Slashdot: Computer Charities for the Children? · · Score: 1

There's a guy I work with by the name of Charlie. He goes around to old computer stores and collects refurbished and/or junk hardware from the plethora of PC vendors & shops in the area. IIRC, he then just delivers them to local preschools as is. The school is responsible for the connectivity & network administration side of things.

I believe this would affect the liability side of things.

  4. Entertainment robots??? on Sony to produce more AIBO & more bots · · Score: 1

Since when has walking the dog become 'entertainment'?

QIII is entertainment, walking the dog is a simple step I take to prevent my dog from peeing on my floor.

So when is Sony going to invent the robots that walk robotic dogs?

  5. perks make work bearable on High-End Tech Company Perks · · Score: 1

I work for an ISP in downtown Atlanta, and while the perks don't make the list with Sun & Adaptec, we have a few of our own:

    Baseball & movie tickets.
    25-cent Coke & Pepsi machines.
Killer keg parties on the parking deck.
    Gift certificates to Music Blvd/CDNow.

We even got a discount on car detailing.

Plus all the normal stuff like stock options, secure parking, computer discounts, and lots of couches in the office :)
