No one says you have to listen to copyrighted music or watch copyrighted movies.
You know how hard it is to find music that isn't copyrighted? Pretty much nothing commercial from the past century fits, and not even non-commercial music from the past twenty years or so is in the public domain.
Yes, a ringworld is stable along the axis of rotation. However, I did the math for stability in the plane of rotation, and it is unstable.
For a ringworld, mass per angular unit increases linearly with offcenter-ness, but gravity falls off as the inverse square, so the further off-center the star is, the more it pulls the ring offcenter.
For a Dyson sphere, gravity falls off as the inverse square of distance, but mass per angular unit increases as the square of distance, so the net result is no change in gravitational attraction.
I think it was a perfectly ACCEPTABLE level of humiliation for prisoners.
It would probably be a perfectly acceptable level of humiliation for convicts. The problem was that the cams were broadcasting from the holding cells for suspects.

The big concern is not trial by jury, but trial by media. If someone is convicted in the minds of the public, it doesn't matter if a jury finds them guilty or not. Just look at O.J. Simpson.
The jail cams in question were for the holding cells of suspects, not of convicted criminals. Thus, the ruling that cameras were not allowed -- it amounts to conviction without a trial.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Dyson sphere suffer from the same problem as the Ringworld? Because it is a solid, it won't remain in "orbit", but will degenerate, with one edge sliding into the sun, in spite of rotation?
Not to the same degree. Ringworld is actively unstable, meaning that if it gets off-center, the star's gravity will pull it further off-center. A Dyson sphere is neutral, meaning that the star's gravity has no net effect on it. If it gets off-center, it can be stabilized in that position -- with an unusual gravity gradient on the surface!
Gas-cloud mapping shows that the universe isn't that well segregated, and if it isn't perfectly segregated, hydrogen-antihydrogen annhilation produces a distinctive signature.
"MacGabhain spent most of the 1990s smoking ragweed and cohabitating with a llama." would almost certainly be found to be libel if said outside of a pretty clear comic sense (or, of course, by me).
The reason everyone launches from near the equator is because they can use the Earth's rotation to give them a speed boost on the way to orbit. These are suborbital flights, so it doesn't matter where they launch from.
In fact, from a recovery standpoint, you might want to launch from one of the poles -- that way, the craft will land near the launch point.

Non-copyrighted movies? You've got to be kidding!
Benedict?
The reason it's $600 is that volume is just about zero. I'd be surprised if they've sold more than a few hundred of these.

There is a camera in the cop car that pulls you over.
The camera in the cop car isn't being broadcast to the whole world. These jailcams were.

As I understand it, standard 2D displays of 3D scenes already make use of all of the non-stereo 3D perception methods.

Tinfoil Hat Linux.
So, what makes XP SP2 different from the majority of Linux .iso images distributed via BitTorrent?
You can go to the distro's download site to find out the MD5 checksum?
Are they using a commercial engine, or a homebrew one? If it's a commercial engine, I wouldn't be too worried.
Me? I don't use a debit or check card. I use credit cards so I don't have my checking account drained it someone gets a hold of my check card number.
I use cash.

Last time I checked, there were 24 viruses and one worm. None of them would work on MacOS X.
What am I missing?
ASCII art goatse.

It wouldn't be libel if it was true.
So, is it?

The 1992 one is a lot less auspicious.
Have they even done an unmanned launch?
Burt Rutan has suggested that the second SS1 flight could be as early as October 4. (Note the historical significance of the date.)
Which significant event are you referring to?
* 1992 - An El Al Boeing 747-200F crashes into 2 apartment buildings in Amsterdam, killing 120 including 43 on the ground.
* 2001 - A Sibir Airlines Tupolev TU-154 crashes into the Black Sea after being struck by an errant Ukrainian missile. 78 people are killed.

You can usually count on calm winds early in the morning.
The Canadian team would probably be fine with that. It's Scaled Composites that would be unhappy.
