Well at least they knew ahead of time that they would have to close the board shortly after players started to realize the game sucked.

  2. SWG is not realty a Star Wars game! on Star Wars Galaxies - Patch Woes? · · Score: 1
SWG is a weak example of a Star Wars based game.

The main issue that killed the game for me was the animal pets. In SWG you can easily become a Creature Handler and with a few quick words train a pet to fight and die for you. A creature Handler can have three pets out at once and they will all fight to the death for him without question. This type of power makes the creature handler (the most non-star wars profession) the most powerful profession. The best part is you store your pets in a data pad and call them out when you need them (Can we all say Pokemon). P.S. the word Pokemon is filtered out of post on the official SWG boards seems like they have a problem with the similarity of their pets to Pokemons.

In the star wars movies the only combat creatures where the used in arenas and controlled with chains and energy sticks or used as pack animal. I don't remember Luke reaching for a pocket PC and calling out a two-story tall creature to help him defeat the Empire, maybe I missed that part.

BTW there are droid engineers in the game but they can only have one droid out at a time and can easily be killed by a low level animal pet. Gee, never realized that in the battles with the droid armies there was one engineer per droid somewhere near by controlling each droid.

If you have not purchased the game and are thinking about it, just remember that when SWG first came out its boards where open to all to read, then as players started voicing their concerns about the game they shut off the boards to only those that have already purchased the game.

Well I always heard stories of censorship in the SWG forums and discounted them as silly. Then one day I replied to a message about Creature Handler and how everyone walking around with an animal pet was silly in a star wars game. In my post I dared to refer to the pet as a Pokemon. Well I guess a lot of people have used that term to talk about SWG pets as the automatic filter on the board edited out the word Pokemon.

This type of censorship of a non-vulgar word is clear attempt to avoid negative references to a game element. SOE is making every effort to prevent any negative views or opinions to be heard by the gaming community. SOE is just another greed corporation trying to get a quick buck before consumers realize that all they have to offer sucks.

Your view of board history is a bit off.
The boards were open for reading in early months after release, you had to logon if you wanted to post a message. It wasn't till after the majority of posts started turning negitive did they lock out the reading of the boards to paying players only.

  5. SWG and Pokemon on Star Wars Galaxies - 300,000 Subscribers, No Jedi... Yet · · Score: 1

I started the game on the opening day, with a 3 month pre-paid subscription. The game looked cool and seemed to rock for about a week. Then the class called Creature Handlers started to take over the game. I exited the space shuttle in a town and met a guy with the two-story tall monster/pet. Its health and damage were worth 5 of my character and he had control over it. That was when it first came clear that this game might have some problems. The ideas that nearly every one in a Star Wars game would be running around using pets to kill things made me laugh. Well I went to the dark side and became a CH, and then was laughing even harder. You store your pets in a little palm computer you carry, and call them out when you need them All this time I thought I was playing Star Wars and actually I was play 'Pokemon is Space'. Well things got so bad on the Official Board that when I posted a message about a Pokemon Tournament, the auto filter on the board edited out the word Pokemon. I guess the dev just didn't like the fact that they made Pokemon in Space instead of Star Wars. I would be upset at them if I wasn't laughing at them. SWG is a great comical adventure in all the things not to do in game design. Lastly I noticed that only real reward for missions was cash, because if they rewarded armor or weapons, then the player with crafting character would scream they are worthless. So they have a game played with pets and are unable to give out any real rewards, not a ground breaking game design.

There is little content in the game. There are repetitive missions which get real boring after first month. The game looks good but plays poorly. The official boards where at first open to all, then as the majority of the post became very negative they restricted them to game owners only. While they boast of 300,000 subscriptions the active game population has greatly decreased. I paid for 3 month in advance along with many others and on October 27th when our subscriptions expire, I would like to know the subscription total. Of course they may have a canceled but not dead subscription status to keep us in the count for many months.
