You paid your tuition so that you could gain knowledge.
Forcing you to give up your notes is effectively saying that you must retain everything in your head, which is ridiculous.
They're your notes, you paid to be able to take them. She has no right.
And even beyond that, it's unreasonable search and seizure by a civilian (what would that fall under, larceny?) for her to go into your backpack without your permission. File a police report and involve the administration of your school.
Python might be worth learning because it's used in a lot of different places nowadays (and I've been considering getting a book on it myself). And I think the functional languages will probably end up being the next shift in programming paradigm, similar to the shift to object-oriented, so they'll probably be worth learning... in the future.
As it is right now, PHP is going pretty well for me.
The real problem is that the RIAA don't have a product anymore.
They used to control the means of recording. No longer, since the equipment necessary can be got for much, much cheaper than years ago.
They used to control the means of reproduction, in that they could actually mass produce your tapes / CDs for you. No longer, since stamping a CD is incredibly cheap now.
Just about the only thing they still control is radio, and even then that's being eaten into by the internet and things like Pandora and last.fm, which their lobbyists are desperately trying to kill.
Without a real business model, they're scraping for ways to maintain the position of control they used to have, and litigation is a very good way of doing just that, since most people don't have the means to actually fight them.
Clearly, Al Gore should be living in a small, average house, or perhaps an apartment if that more matches the average person, just so he can be close to the national average of electricity use regardless of his actual net worth or funds.
Or, y'know, put the UUencoded attachment in the body of the email. No MIME section header or whatever. Or are servers really configured to sniff out stuff that looks like it's UUencoded?
(Actual question, since I haven't worked with them to that extent.)
The very fact that there is a "recall" feature shows a lack of understanding of how email works.
What's the phrase? Trying to take something off the internet is like trying to remove piss from a pool.
One can argue that internally they should have complete control, but even then one is racing against time to delete the message *on the client* before the person reads it. What's the point?
From someone who's done many, many, many installs of both XP and Gentoo, you're overstating this. XP installs are usually pretty easy, assuming you have a slipstreamed SP2 / 3 CD. Gentoo installs need some decent skill, or at least the willingness to learn and follow directions from the website.
Maybe, but then the politician said he had "22 years of experience with computers," not to mention repeatedly threatening the guy at CentOS with an FBI investigation.
Personally, I would have waited for him to report it to the FBI so we could laugh at him together with the agents.
So let them be modded down into oblivion. You're polluting Slashdot just as much with your constant "ZOMG IT'S TWITTER LET'S GET HIM!" remarks. Moderation takes care of it in the vast majority of cases, including this one if you notice.
My guess is that twitter, all his supposed sockpuppets, and all his accusers are in fact the same person with a severe case of multiple personality disorder.
Shhhh. Who cares? If he says something insightful, he'll be modded as such. If he says something, well, kinda meh, like he did above, it'll just settle under the radar of most people, like it has here. That's the brilliance of the Slashcode moderation system. It doesn't matter who you are, it matters what you say.
Everyone who's yelling about twitter this and sockpuppet that needs to learn that simple fact and take a chill pill.
Apologies, it's been a long time since I took a DirectX course. Aren't there already translucent textures? Why can't these appear to be at the correct depth?
And again, I believe that group that simply needs to be separated from everyone else to be vanishingly small. Usually they can be helped to become non-violent, productive citizens.
Call me a slashbot if you want, but I always post what I'm actually thinking as opposed to what the community as a whole might, and it's usually worked out for me as far as karma goes, as long as my argument is well-written, etc.
Funny, I've bashed Microsoft many, many times and I've never been the target of a lawsuit. And do you really think a judge would say "Oh, you substituted a dollar sign, you couldn't possibly have meant Microsoft, case dismissed!"
No, I'm pretty sure you're just talking out of your ass.
The thing is that the group that needs to be kept permanently in prison is likely so small that they're practically infinitesimal. Likely this group consists mostly of people who should be institutionalized rather than kept behind bars without further specialization.
If you've seen the deleted scene of Norway from Sicko, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Unfortunately the US prison system especially seems more concerned with punishing than rehabilitating. This is, again, likely due to politics, because voters like seeing images of "hardened criminals" behind bars. The problem is that these criminals, while some may be genuinely evil people, are also human. Treating them as a separate group, a form of "the other", just sweeps a group of people under the rug.
And frankly, the idea of leaving a group of people to rot just makes me sad.

Hehe.

Umm... PHP.
*cough*
So what does that mean, Samuel L. Jackson had them make him a custom version of Gecko?

Hey guys, let's completely ignore the discussion and talk about my pet issue instead!
Clearly, Al Gore should be living in a small, average house, or perhaps an apartment if that more matches the average person, just so he can be close to the national average of electricity use regardless of his actual net worth or funds.
Oh wait, that's stupid.
Or, y'know, put the UUencoded attachment in the body of the email. No MIME section header or whatever. Or are servers really configured to sniff out stuff that looks like it's UUencoded?

Hounddogs Pizza in Columbus, OH. The greatest, and most unhealthy, pizza you could ever behold.
But threatening people is so much easier then being technically competent!

Let's celebrate the nine heroes who have actually given this feedback on eBay. :^D

Exactly right. The problem here is that OLPC has developed type 2 diabetes, so they have to be really careful about their Sugar intake.
Thanks folks, I'll be here all night. Try the fish.
I love Slashdot.

Weird.

Well played, sir. Well played.
this is slashdot, and people here aren't idiots
You must be new here.
I'm an idiot, you insensitive clod!
I'm an insensitive clod, you idiot!
I'm not related to this discussion, just wanted to get in the picture. Hi mom!
I said hi to your mom last night.
Twice.
In the biblical sense.
