God damn, these people are doing the best they can with the money they have, there is no point in making faster clients. Nobody cares about their wasted 'cpu cycles'. You leave the program on when you want, if doing twice as many work units isnt accomplishing anything then there is no point. Find something else to write code for in your spare time.
Neural nets and GAs are being put to new uses all the time too. still neat stuff. cheer up! All cutting edge research starts out stumbling around. Look how long it took before we had a clue about the planets! Thats why its fun!
Seems like a cheap but weak solution. Some others here mentioned some neat ideas like encryption glasses that talk to the monitor. That sounds unecessarily complicated. Just get glasses with LCDs on them, nobody else can see, and its simple.
