In the state of SC you cannot legally hold public office if you don't believe in a supreme being. It doesn't state any specific one (so whether you're Muslim/Christian/Hindu/etc you're covered), but if you're an admitted atheist you can't legally hold office.

Valid points, but meaningless for the vast majority of users whom just use their cell phone for voice services. For those users there is effectively no major difference between AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.
At least you guys have a choice of providers. Here in Canada, we almost have government-backed monopolies with even higher monthly bills.
What do you think we have here in the US? Three of the four big providers have very little difference between them. They all have the exact same price plan for minutes. The only difference is the extra features offered. T-Mobile is the only one that actually offers more minutes/cheaper plans.
They are all government-backed too. Think you or I could start a cell phone plan? Think again. The spectrum is auctioned off the highest bidder. For a few billion dollars the entrenched interests can just gobble it all up regardless of whether or not they need it or intend to deploy on it.
Israel was created by a UN mandate. Had her neighbors peacefully accepted this mandate nobody would have been forced out of their homes. The original borders were largely drawn along the lines of where the Jews and Palestinians were already settled. Instead of accepting this mandate however her neighbors attempted to settle the matter with military force. Not once mind you, not twice, but three different times.
You can't really place all of the blame for the current situation on Israel, much as though you may want to. There's plenty of blame to go around on all sides.

I'm not so sure that I can agree with that. It may or may not compete with digg (not having ever visited digg I can't compare the two) but I often see stories pop up on the so-called "mainstream media" (CNN, MSNBC) sites a week or two after they are featured here. I've noticed this with a lot of technology articles but/. also seems to beat them to the punch on various political issues as well, particularly those that focus on our civil liberties and online rights.

I don't think Palin has any interest in running for POTUS. She's not entirely stupid -- you don't get to be Governor of a state without being able to read polls. I think her MO from this point going forward is simply to cash in. Collect $50,000 speaking fees and book royalties. Can't really say as I blame her either. Her family isn't rich and she incurred six digits worth of legal debt fighting ethics complaints (most of which were baseless) as Governor, so why not take the money and run?
Oh, she'll stick around to rally the base and keep her name in the news, but I doubt very much that we'll see her running for any sort of national office. I suppose she could take the Hillary approach and run for US Senate (Begich is living on borrowed time in that heavily Republican state and only won because of Ted Stevens' legal woes) but even that would surprise me.
I wonder if the religious conservatives really would have abandoned McCain without Palin on the ticket? I know they don't like him very much but whatever his perceived flaws, he has a pretty solid pro-life record. I agree that Huckabee is probably the leading contender at this point, although his populism doesn't sit well with the business wing of the party. Romney comes across as an empty suit (IMHO anyway) and is tarnished with the legacy of the Massachusetts universal health care system.
Of course it's entirely possible that some unknown candidate will come out of nowhere and capture the GOP nomination. If a former State Senator whom didn't even complete one term in the US Senate can be a serious candidate.......

This has the effect of discouraging frivolous and speculative lawsuits since the plaintiff can end up making a loss
