Here in Portugal (and Spain does it too) we pay a monthly fee dependent on our amperage limit, besides the normal metering. Right now we have to manually avoid having some "big" appliances like washing machines and heaters on at the same time, and when we forget it the meter limiter "halts" and we have everything unpowered 'till we wake up :(

That seems like energy conservation taken to a ridiculous extreme to me. If that's the future here then no thank you -- let's just build some nuclear plants and be done with it. What happens to customers with medical or other mission critical equipment? Is my oxygen concentrator gonna lose power because I forgot to turn the washing machine off before I go to bed?

That'd be pretty neat seeing as how they killed him off during his last appearance. I suppose they could go the Lucas route and write a prequel. Given the quality of entertainment these days I'd wager on Khan foiling Kirk's attempt to kill him by hiding in a fridge.

No, I made an observation on the types of comments that we see around /. and the manner in which those comments were moderated. I haven't really taken a position either way on the Cheney issue, other than rolling my eyes at the fact that his name came up in a discussion about the new administration.

Calling me a partisan is pretty funny too because I've rarely agreed with the Bush administration on anything. In fact I was a partisan in the other direction right up until the time that Obama reversed himself on FISA. Now I'm content to point out hypocrisies on both sides.

What's wrong with that picture? It really requires that much complexity to fund the Federal Government?
