    Ah, but don't they end up selling proportionately more tickets as the jackpot increases? If multiple people hit the jackpot, you have to split it. Do you have any references to expected payout calculations of recent large jackpots? I tried to find some a while ago, but failed.

    If I was going by the pronounciation of "solar" I'd end up saying "so-luhr-iss". Anyways, check out the various videos at Sun's website. Here's one: http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/media/features/nc04q1. html McNealy says "So-lare-iss"... and he's the man... soo.... yeah.

    Yeah, but I also can push the button on the front so that security sucks :)

    but the OS can disable that button for many (if not all) drives.

    Yeah, but the movie was pronounced "So-lah-riss" and the OS is pronounced "So-lare-iss". That bugged me throughout the whole movie.

    Cell phone towers actually do a lot of processing, from managing handoff and tracking phones across sectors to channel assignment and power regulation. I think they could pretty easily track spurious white noise if they wanted to. I don't have google links, but you could try a copy of "Wireless Communications" by Rappaport.

    never seen Apple's prices drop

    Apple announces price drops twice a year at MacWorld. Not every product gets a reduction every MacWorld, but it happens fairly regularly. For instance, announcements about higher capacity iPods often preceed announcements about the old ones being cheaper.

    It's not like stealing, because they only took a fraction of a megabyte at a time. Only when they're all added up in your Swiss bank account does it amount to the full source code. It's like the take a penny, leave a penny jar.

    Hopefully, commoditized internet will encourage the adoption of better security policies & protocols

    I'm not saying that this analogy is air-tight, but consider the commiditization of electricity. How many people have adequate surge protection for all their electronics (slashdot notwithstanding)? How many kitchen faucets spew water that tastes like crap? I could go on and on...
