If you learned everything you could about politics in one year of your life then your a better man than I am!
I learned everything i could about the issues, and who was for stuff and whatnot. I don't claim to knw everything about every issue. I also don't think its a process that stops.
This is the first year I really feel comfortable about voting, and I've been able to for 6 years now. It took most of the time I spent in college for me to begin to develop anything that remotely resembled a decent Mature view of the world.
Well, that is you. I feel i could have made an intelligent choice at 17 if given the chance.
As for taxes I hate them as much as anyone else, but if you are able to work you should be paying them. It's our duty as citezens of the US to help chip in for the daily runnings of the country.
I don't hate taxes. I hate that people without representation have to pay them. Odd that these under 18 'citezens' get to pay taxes but have zero say in anything about our country, and are more heavily restricted then even prisoners i bet. To me its simple,if you are truely a citizen, then you pay taxes, but you also get a say in the governing of the country. It seems very lopsided to make someone pay but not give them a say...what reason do they have for paying taxes then? Isn't that one of the main reasons this country was born to begin with?
No, you're wrong. And i can say that b/c i'm 22, going on 23...and i've been opposed to these thigns since i was about 15, not b/c i couldn't vote or buy alcohol, but b/c i knew that these arbitary age limits were insane.
Do you think you should be able to vote at 15? How about 12? I worked at 16, but it was a part time job, didn't care much about politics, and a vote from me would definatly have reflected my parents views and not my own.
Maybe, maybe not. At 16 i learned everything i could about politics, and i was able to form my own opinon on it. Besides, the other solution would be to exempt those under 18 from taxes. You shouldn't be taxed if you have no say.
Adults take away their rights, and then expect them to pay taxes. Tell me, why should someone with no say in the gov't be forced to pay anything to it?
Besides, whast the difference if a bitter, disgruntled immature adult voting and a bitter, disgruntled immature teenager?
You'd be bitter too if you had selfish, idiotic, and defeatist people running the country.
I find it very hard to believe your linux machine won't boot correctly after an incorrect shutdown. The FS keeps multiple copies of the superblock built into it, and its VERY doubtful that ALL of them get screwed.
As far as your method to calculate uptime on NT. Its bogus. Although the # you get will actualy be lower then the actual uptime. The system idle time is just that; the amount of time its been idle. Your method just drops all the times it hasn't been idle out of the formula.
Thats how my hs was, but i think guys nominated other guys, and girls nomiated other girls, or something. The vote also wasn't for a couple but for a guy and girl. If i remember right:)
Well, you should have seen my HS. VERY cliqish. Not that there weren't a few that everyone liked but also liked everyone, but for the most part if you weren't wearing the latest gap or ambercrombie fashion you were looked down upon. And i had some friends outside of my group, but they were only a few.
Well, i'd have to say you and your friends are an exception, rather then the rule. There definaly was a distinction between us that dind't go out drinking every weekend in hs and those of us that played d&d. I knew i was considered a nerd, but i didn't care. It didn't stop me from doing anything. I knew what going a sports team would be like, my gym class taught me that. Nothing but a bunch of idiots that thought they were gods b/c they could play basketball better then i. And they really were idiots, they averaged a D in all of thier classes. So ya in my HS this tension was there and was very real. Those that didn't conform were outcast. Which was fine for me, b/c i didn't think they were that great people anyway. The only hurt i got was the torture of having to be around them everyday all day for 7 hours. But i guess it evens out...when i'm home working as an intern making decent money, they often ask if i would like my value meal king sized.:)
Well perhaps you should read the article to understand it. I'm sure they do read it; a label paid laywer explains the good parts down plays the bad parts, and they are basically lied to say they'll easily make more then thyll have to pay..which is not the case. I doesn't say that in the contract, but thats what their 'friend' from the label will tell them. Seach/. for the article.
Read that article on what courtny love said. All that nice support they have to pay for. They are told little lies to intice them, then sign, and realize too late that they've been had. Only the largest, biggest bands ever get to make any money at it. Most do not. Besides, until the internet, what other choice did they have if they wanted alot of people to hear thier music? Just remember, they end up paying for the airplay, paying for the cost of roadtrips, etc.
You must have missed one of the parent posts. Let me quote a bit from one of them, so you can know where I got the whole drug violence bit:
...
That's where the inital 'violence' thing came from.
Um, thanks, but I was the one that posted the parent post. The person replying to it seemed to think that people high on drugs were causing most of the drug related violence, at least thats how i took it.
I don't think it's necessarily the rebellion aspect that appeals to kids, but more the 'i want to be an adult' mentality. I think kids want to do it because they see the adults doing it.
I agree, i don't think the rebel factor is the only cause, but i'm sure it does get alot of kids. As far as seeing parents do it, well that doesn't explain why kids in Europe aren't obsessed with getting drunk. Most kids i know that got drunk on weekends had parents that didn't drink, or drank responsibily. And i'm sure they weren't idolizing the local town drunk.
I do not think this is valid a reason to legalize highly-addictive and destructive drugs, however. That is basically condoning their casual use (like with cigarettes).
I don't think smoking is condoned. I think most people (esp nonsmokers) seem to hate it. The resent drive to push smokers out of just about everywhere is evidence of that.
If someone has a resonable response backing why kids won't be interested in drugs the same way they are in cigarettes, I may change my mind on this.
Tell me, why would they? Kids are kids. And if educated early enough, i think they'd be too scared to risk anything by doing drugs. I don't think legalizing crack would cause it to suddenly appear in your local grocery store. Besides, if something is legal, it can be regulated. While i don't agree with the age limit laws on cigerretes and alcohol, it could be done with something like crack. You seem to think that if drugs were illegal, the kids would just jump to them. I doubt that. And if i'm to believe the local tv commercials, 1 out of 10 kids (or something) has tried pot by 6th grade. Obviously making them illegal hasn't stopped the kids from getting it. I think the reason is that there is no education at that low a level. There sure wasn't when i was in 6th grade (granted, 11years ago...). Why not educate as early as possible. Make them (rightfully) scared of things like crack and heroin. I didn't get drug ed until 10th grade i think. Thats way too late.
At any rate, i'd like to see some evidence that kids would actually jump to harder drugs just b/c they became legal.
Perhaps thats how it is now. But the way it was designed to work was the electoral college was supposed to be made up of very educated people. That way if everyone did vote for a pres. that was all for nuking, the electorates could change the vote. But they were supposed to only do this if it would mean disaster for the country.
Is ok, i probably would have done the same if i didn't scroll down to see what more there was at the bottom of the page.:) Hope i dind't offend you, didn't mean it like that.
Such selective enforcement is not what our system is build upon.
Oh, its not? Why is it i've gotten a ticket speeding in the same area as my friend did, who was pulled over, but no ticket. We were doing about the same speed (10 over, like most people on that road actually). Why are there laws that prevent citizens from installing servellence equipment in thier home for security put buisnesses are expected to? It seems to me the more money you have in this country, the less the law applies. I'm sure you don't need me to point out lots of cases where this has been true.
Listening is a right. Its at my discresion if i give the artist any money. No one said you have the RIGHT to make a living as a musician. That said, i wouldn't mind giving money directly to the artists. I won't be happy until the record labels disappear completely.

Maybe if teens didn't constantly get the shaft...

I bet the VA gov't is kicking themselves for passing it now.
My question is, why bother? Barcodes seem to get the job done just fine. this just seems unnecessary.
despite pretending not to care, i doubt there's a single high school outcast who didn't pray to god every day hoping to be cool for just 5 minutes.
I didn't, and i know alot of people not in the popular clique that didn't. Most outside saw them for the shallow people they really were.
Its possible he didn't want to play. My hs nomiated people for that...you didn't get a say.
Thats how my hs was, but i think guys nominated other guys, and girls nomiated other girls, or something. The vote also wasn't for a couple but for a guy and girl. If i remember right :)

My employer is providing a pool table for us. Altough most of us there do want it, if i was offered a choice i'd rather telecommuting.
Thanks, i'll give it a read. But how are you sure it would be better then the current system?

I found it it was fake by the note on the bottom saying 'This was a piece of satire meant to liven your day'.
But nothing = nothing. All things considered, artists usually end up owing the record labels.
You are the moron. how do you steal from the artist if they aren't getting anything to begin with??
Listening is a right. Its at my discresion if i give the artist any money. No one said you have the RIGHT to make a living as a musician. That said, i wouldn't mind giving money directly to the artists. I won't be happy until the record labels disappear completely.
Or for that matter, below.
