"must succeed with no problems" project, all bets are off -- hire an experienced consultant so you have someone to blame
Perfect stupidity, sure it's better to blame someone when your project is dead, ran out of money and still "bugly try to work". Blindly relying on "expert" is a bad thing, expecially when the expert realise you don't and don't want to understand what he's dealing with.
Would make a perfect new computer truism

Even if I know a handfull of language and web stuff, I didn't know anything about XUL. Sound interresting tho. So I googled "XUL" to find out. Guess what, All the first URL was talking about XUL, how to code it, how to make installation package, the classes, the inheritance, blablablabla No even a simple working example. So for me (a busy programmer already spending too much time crawling ./ ), XUL still stands as an obscure programming stuff, supposed to make sometimes in the future some kind of UI related stuff. Come on, let's get visual for once. I might be flaming, but even Open Source stuff needs marketing and visual clues.

  6. Re:How does Skype do NAT firewalls? on Skype Founder Interviewed On Engadget · · Score: 1
I'll try to explain with the few I've read about it.

first of all, concerning the firewall, basically it tries to find an unblocked port (between 1 and 65535). If none available, it use instead the regular web port (80) to do its job. That's why he says in the article "If you can use a Web browser, you can use Skype".
    see Skype and Firewalls
Concerning the direct computer to computer connection required to carry the datas, if both computer can make outgoing socket connection but cannot receive incoming socket connection requests, the whole skype mesh automagically find a third computer that can do this to 'bridge' them. That where the P2P concept of skype makes sense, when running the skype application in backgroung, you may act as voice carrier for others.
    see Skype Explained
My explaination is just a rought simplification, for better understanding check the given links.

One last point not mentionned yet on this thread is the conference ability. Being able to talk with up to 5 other people a the same time really rocks. I'm pretty sure it's been make on several other software, but skype makes it so badass simple.

    I simply LOVE it.

This might sounds stupid, but I managed to get access to a unreachable IBM click'o'death disk in a very simple way : The drive was installed horizontaly in my PC case, well, tried to run it in a vertical position. Believe me or not, it worked, the disk started fine. I didn't investiguate how long it could still run this way. 15 minutes was all it took me to make a complete disk copy, then it got dumped.
