But then again, maybe I wouldn't challenge you because I don't want to spoil good beer.
That's a good point. Here in the UK we drink beer by the pint, in Europe you drink it by the 250ml glass. Our ale has traditionally been 3-4 percent alcohol, but recently the continental influence has meant that 5% is more normal and 6% is not uncommon. Combine that with the British tradition of gulping it down by the 568ml pint and you have a recipe for disaster. There's a lot to be said for sipping strong beer from a small glass but I do like a pint sometimes.
IMO, it's just that the English aren't as fussy about it and are happy with the (to the USians) lower quality food that is more generally available.
You've never been to a Taco Bell? I agree that it is very easy to find good quality food, cheap and plenty of it. My experience in California was similar to yours. However, when it's bad it's *really* bad, worse than anything I've ever had in the UK. Some of it makes fish and chips look like health food.
Cadbury is crap in the UK too. Green and Blacks is my favourite in the UK. Although they've been bought by Cadbury, they promise to run it as a separate business and the quality is still there, for now. The difference is £1.50 for 100 grams of G&B vs £1.50 for 250 grams of dairy milk.
There were no CPC fanboys. Even a CPC owner would admit the systems were trash.
Nice troll, I'm a CPC fanboy. They're not trash, the graphics and sound were superior to the speccy. You can tell the difference in the games that were written for the CPC versus the games that were written for the speccy and ported to the CPC.
My neighbor's access point is a crappy linksys wrouter that he got several years ago. He uses WEP but I can crack that quicker than he can type in the key.
You are my neighbour and I claim my five pounds! *checks OpenWRT logs*
I don't think it was clear that you meant that; I don't see google or yahoo serving up the kinds of ads you block with flashblock or adblock. Thanks for clarifying, though.
I hate to say it, but me too. It's got to the point that web page ads are as annoying as TV ads. You have adds flying around the screen and obscuring the content, gratuitous animation and sound. Frankly it's taking the piss, it's no wonder people use flashblock and adblock.
However, you must concede that entrepreneurial instinct (which often involves "pushing" information or products at people when they don't really need or want them) has done a lot to forward technological advances.
Absolutely. Where would we be without web page ads or spam? The world needs more Scott Richters!!1
Still, it's great to see "content" telling us not to use ad blocking software that is itself full of ads. In this case I think I can live without their content.
Man, I can't wait for someone to write an AJAX version of Photoshop that I can use offline. It could be just like the real thing but fifty times slower!
Althouth there are a few interesting tools I'd still like to see, how many more desktops apps are really needed? Most people's needs and desires are more than covered by a word processor, email client and web browser. Open Office and MS Office are already overloaded with features that almost nobody will ever use.
There will always be a need for custom software for corporates, but that is typically client/server with the client side just being a web front-end. The browser covers that.
We don't need any more desktop apps! And 640k should be enough for anyone!
The problem is that most people want something bigger/faster/sexier/"safer" than a small diesel. Plus US people would be scared of looking like communists if they drove small European diesels.
It depends where you are. Most of London is a sprawling dump and a lot of the south east seems to be full of unhappy people. I live in the Cotswold area which is a really beautiful place, middle england in every sense. Some people I know think it's the best place in the world. As a keen cyclist I can't really complain, I'm surrounded by fantastic cycling country and idyllic villages. We have long, warm summers and mild winters. I don't know many other places in the world I could indulge my hobby in the same way.
Yeah, it helps by getting the perpetrators caught and prosecuted. They will think twice about doing it again, or be behind bars, and it will act as a deterrent to others thinking about being violent.
RTFA. It's not for catching litterbugs and it's not 100% of the time. The cameras are installed in the centre of towns and cities, places where you're in public anyway.
If drunken brawls are a problem, put more police on the streets near these bars.
It's not brawls, it's people getting "happy slapped" and gangs of low-lifes beating up innocent passers by for no reason - mindless, drunken violence. There are already a lot of police on the street around town and city centres at the weekend. They can't be everywhere at once, but the cameras catch incidents the police don't.

Oops, should have used the preview button.
Don't forget the Amstrad CPC fanboys ;)
You had keyboards!!?? We had to program by toggling switches on the front of our computers!
I for one welcome our new humorless overlords!!!1
I for one welcome our new nerdy space overlord!
Thanks, I stand corrected.

Easy, build more prisons. We've got a way to go before we reach the %incarcerated that you have.
