actually, they're not really 'missing' per say, just ignored on the bottom of the ocean:

get yerself a waterproof geiger counter and a couple of divers and become a member of the nuclear club!
the air force doesn't care enough to do it themselves, if you're not an evil terrorist, there could be some salvage $ in it. .
OK, maybe it's just me, but isn't sending things to low Earth orbit still $10k/lb?
WHY ARE WE SENDING MAKEUP TO SPACE?!
Even at a few ounces, a mascara bottle is dead weight. surely there's some nut or bolt that they'd love to have a spare of up there instead.
Sorry, clearly you've never used OSX.. it IS the most intuitive user experience, and the most widely distributed UNIX. Grandma, any child, most Slashdot admins, and Virginia Tech all agree. Take a look at how elegant Aqua/Quartz is what with it's PDF base and GPU offloading. I know the 'community' likes Linux, I like and use Linux, but NeXT and now Apple has taken the OS to where nearly every Computer Science PHD speculated in the late 80s when they imagined: "What do we *really* want from an OS."
Here it is, OSX, enjoy it!
IMHO, CMU is one of the most under appreciated contributors of key technologies that shape the world of the average slashdotter.. Everyone knows Berkeley and MIT's contributions, but CMU stands right alongside them..
Red's Robots, Mach Kernel, Andrew, AFS, CERT, a surprisingly good drama school and many others..
without going to far into it, heres what apple has to say about their technology. Any MacOSX user can attest to this providing real tangible benifits on their system
From the Apple link in the parent post: (yea it's marketing, but it's not false)
"Quartz uses the integrated OpenGL technology to convert each window into a texture, then sends it to the graphics card to render on screen..."
"Quartz Extreme uses a supported graphics card built into your Mac to relieve the main PowerPC chip of on screen calculations. This dramatically improves system performance..."
Of course the CPU is involved however, QE is CPU independent as the requirements are for a GPU...
"Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video GPUs: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti or any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required."
This is all moot, since no windows user will have longhorn (legally) in their hands for another 12+ months or so, please let me know when some Linux distro gets around to it too..

Been there, Done that..
Yet another non-innovation..
Quartz Extreme (apple.com) has been in MacOSX for more then a year now. (thats 2 generations in OS years)
Don't know the exact date the Friendly 'Toy Capable' Environment is out, but i do know when we'll know more:
Apple's 'Worldwide Developers Conference, June 28 to July 2"
It'll be done in the best 'Infinite Loop' style, being both "a Toy" and "Not a Toy".

Go Tartans!
Well in that case it's a darn good thing its integrated into the OS and our chips are more efficient (~1.75:1) isn't it?
=P
