... it's possible to buy a large PC case and fill it with a large number of drives that add up to a volume of storage that was once considered to be large several years ago. What's new here?
The article could have covered a little more than just the hardware needed to run such a setup, perhaps covering some sort of remote management interface for the storage? It would also have been nice to hear if they solved the problem of backing up this data on a budget too. (Ingoring the possiblilty of burning the data to DVD).
.. because walking around, semi-distracted, with your finger stuck in your ear is such a wise idea! Can you imagine the mess when someone trips and their finger slips a little depper? Ouch.
So everyone should stop using other search engines and no one else should bother trying to improve on Google? I find Google a great improvement on other search engines and has more often than not always returned better results for me.
It's not perfect though, I'm finding that I want better results and to get those results I'm having to learn more about Google works to tweak the returns and that's not something your average user of a search engine (okay... the average users not search for Britney) should have to do.
If Microsoft want to buy a search engine and just relable it as "Ask Microsoft", I could see your point - not many people would use it over Google unless Windows/IE tightly integrated with it. If MS however bought out a search engine and learnt from it, improved on it, then I don't think it's a band thing.
But viruses sustain employment in the anti-virus sector. Surely that's a good thing? Now excuse me whilst I rush out to patent a means for program distribution through self replicating code.

If I had a dime for everytime someone said "Linux isn't ready for the desktop", I'd be paying these people to STFU.
:-)
I hope you realise you'd have roughly a dime to shut each one of those people up with, good luck!
My favourite part of any airshow has always been the static display. This doesn't bode well for the X-Prise :-)

This page from Nasa's Astronomy Picture of the day site shows some amazing images of these sun spots.
Since 1976, see here.
How about sending Red Adair off to the sun to cool things off a bit?
