    Okay, I will just throw this out there...
    Perhaps the number of Linux users registering is a side-effect due to the fact this game was linked to in a recent Slashdot article?

    Careful, you are bordering on speculation yourself. While the article does not say McD is definately not going to make this deal, it also offers no evidence that they will.

    Any for the record, /. was not issueing a retraction, the headline reads: McDonald's Denies Deal with iTunes. The headline seems acurate to me.
