If you're new to Mac OS X, there's some tools you should check out. Personally I can't live without LaunchBar. Give it a spin for a few days and life will never be the same again. Let me know if you want any other recommendations.;)
Oh, check out Little Snitch too. It is for blocking outgoing traffic from, say, an app that tried to dial home.
For ftp there's Interarchy, Fetch, Transmit, cuteFTP to name a few. Don't think a graphical ftp client comes included with Panther but I've been wrong before. heh
Yeah, I think so. At least I can fool my 15" into turning on the backlight when i cover the speakergrills - but you need to cover them both to fool it.
Wrt. your backlit keyboard not working - you need to be in a dark room, i.e. with the lights turned off. Then the keyboard will light up automatically and F9/F10 will work.:)
