Twice now I have been forced to develop a website in Flash when the only reason the client would not accept standards-compliant CSS pages was the font limitations. Not a moment too soon, I say.
I thought it was a clever way of exploiting the fact that people may well trust adverts "selected by Google" as suitable accompaniment to the Better Business Bureau. It's strange the associations some people make (including me, obviously).
"The British government, though, is seeking to change the law in order to lock up people with personality disorders that are thought to make them likely to commit crimes, before any crime is committed."
I've read TFA, and nowhere does it say the UK is actually using, or even actually planning to use, these systems. The lead paragraph states that the cameras are in use in the UK, but the body has the suit being quoted as saying "In the U.K., London police also are considering installing the system".
I can't find any mention besides this article of this technology being used anywhere here in the UK (which, granted, might be poor google-fu on my part).
What I see is the CEO of the company that manufactures the tech talking up the fact that the UK police didn't laugh him off the premises.
And my answer is: for one or two of these things, you are right, but when the tech gets cheaper and there's a cloud of 2500 of the little buggers over your town? Yes, then I have a problem - that isn't tracking crooks, that's tracking everyone.
Who Owns What might do you as a starting point, but if you find one that has more online media included, I'd like to hear about it too

That's maybe why it stuck in my memory - it's not the usual mefi fare in these politics-soaked days. Plus it was a very odd sensation reading it on the front page and being certain I'd seen the very same post somewhere yesterday.

Has anyone got an authoritative source for this?

"Sorry, but your instinct for self-preservation should be higher than your altruism."
Isn't it often people for whom this is *not* true that really get things changed for the better?
Just saying.

Not to worry, thanks for replying. It is an interesting observation nonetheless.
