My work does not, I repeat, does not belong to all humanity. Humanity has never in its long and illustrious history written a damn thing. Saying that a particular work of art belongs to "humanity" as opposed to the artist who made it makes about as much sense as saying that your car belongs to humanity.
Stop equating creative output to tangible things. They are simply not the same.
If somebody took your car, you couldn't drive drive it or use it or sell it any more.
No one can take your creative output away from you, they can only make copies. Your argument is that could reduce your income, and that is quite possible, that does not make it theft though.
I suppose it comes down to the concept of owning ideas - a concept I reject. You don't want anyone else to copy your ideas or content, do not release it, that is the only way you can ever actually achieve that.
Your argument that copyright infringement destroys all value is somewhat flawed.
It certainly removes the artificial scarcity. It is not theft, but it can negatively impact a rights holder. Since I reject the concept that you can own intangible things, I must also reject the concept that it is theft.
Actual things have real scarcity.
This sort of information was available before, it isn't the first time.
If terrorists wanted to learn how to make the bomb, they could do so more easily than most.
We use notes for a variety of business tasks, and uses to use it for mail. We moved away from notes mail as there were so specific requirements it could not address, but most of our systems still run quite well on notes.
Interesting idea: How much computing power is available on the internet ?
If the entire internet was tasked with playing chess or go, how would it do ?
Just a random thought
I can't agree with that synopsis.
Ads annoy me, I don't just mean banner ads, I mean ALL ads.
I am willing to avoid ad-laden content that I cannot filter (TV, Radio). Free content will not evaporate, it existed before banners, it will exist after.
I can't believe people pay what they do for the iPad, talk about overpriced.
The biggest issue is that Yahoo / Bing isn't as good a search engine as Google is.

Yes, it wasn't true decentrlized P2P, like P2P is now, which is why the network died when napster ceased to exist.
Not so, Napster had the content pass throught the servers they ran
