how con no-one have mentioned deviantart.com?
definitely the biggest collection of indie artists ive ever seen. There is a hugh amount of amazing talent on that site that posts their work on deviant art for free, im sure that someone of its 6 million art pieces (while a fair bit of it is crap, at least the top third of it is jaw droppingly good) would help out either gratis or for a small fee.
