  1. No Video iPod coming, but close? on The Future of the iPod · · Score: 3, Interesting

    1. iTunes has a "hidden" component for handling video. 2. The Sony PSP can connect to and use a local network. 3. About a year ago, Jobs talked about Apple & Sony working together on the future of video. The Sony PSP as the "video iPod"? How big of a stretch would it be to load video from a computer running iTunes to a memory stick in a PSP if the capability was more obvious? My PSP will play content from QT 7 and AAC files, but I haven't moved anything to it wirelessly yet. Sony released a ceramic-white PSP in Japan about a week ago. It won't play UMD movies from Region 1, but if you need an idea about how a "video iPod" with a decent screen would look like, you could do worse. If it was an Apple-branded build with no UMD drive & replaced it with a 20G hard drive, I'd consider buying one. http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000997051360/ Just saying, is all...

With the kind of tort reform that Republicans are proposing, your odds for recourse are about the same. You'll be the victim of a botched or complicated surgery in the U.S.and either settle for pennies on the dollar that may not cover your expenses for survival or end up in India with a grave health problem that they may or may not be able to deal with.

What I dislike about this is how this influences people to consider leaving the country to get critical care. The odds of something going wrong with heart surgery in India and being f****d are becoming the same as if they got it in the U.S. , but you're more likely not to go completely broke doing it. in India.

According to the Houston Chronicle, she'll be doing her time in a facility in downtown Houston that's about as cheery as Sadaam's spider-hole. I can't find the exact link for the actual description of her cell (8x10, frosted glass windows no regular sunlight), but she's doing her year in a very ugly place.

I hope Ken Lay gets this times 50...

  4. Re:More scapegoating? How unexpected. on Requiem For The Record Store · · Score: 1

And because Tower Records had a scary goth kid with far too many piercings working the cash register. That's reason enough to support brick & mortar record stores....Do you want the scary goth kid with far too many piercings handling your food at Mc Donalds, greeting you at Wal-Mart or driving the forklift at Home Depot? Record stores may be the only employment option some of these guys have...the last time I went to Tower, all the registers looked like they were manned by the ghosts from Thirteen Ghosts. But the only really scary thing about them was the disinterest they had in doing their jobs and the apparent disdain they had for dealing with their customers. I haven't shopped there since.

  5. DVD for archive? I'll chance it.... on DVD-Rs go 8x · · Score: 1

I have to trust DVD-R for archiving at the present time because I have no choice. The week before I bought my Pioneer 4x, I lost a 20G pocket drive full of data. I'm about 100 DVDs in (2 sets of each backup), and have had few problems with making or reading the discs. What I am worried about is the longevity. Is DVD+R more stable?
