I found this wonderful link which I don't know if anyone has mentioned.
This package has some cool features like MouseKeys, Magnification, and on the fly Video Mode Changing from a control panel. It is aimed at helping people with disabilities to use Linux, but it might be helpful in this situation as well. I found this at http://cmos-eng.rehab.uiuc.edu/accessx/
A link which I also posted about earlier, but I feel should be mentioned again is the window managers page at http://www.plig.org/xwinman This page has screenshots and ratings of what different window managers can do.
You might want to check out the site http://www.plig.org/xwinman It's got a lot of comparisons of different window managers. I personally prefer wmx, but I wouldn't suggest it for this as there is no way to do button panels.

Yes, it does get rather loud when I take the cover off. I don't even know why am using fans, my CPU's aren't overclocked. I personally put together my machine around the BP6 because it was a good cheap board. Dual 400 Celeron's may not be exactly twice as fast as a single 400 Celeron, but it's pretty nice.
The one thing that I've noticed is that a lot of program makefiles aren't set up to be able to take advantage of SMP machines. (make -j #). -- Like XFree86 -- But, doing fun things like recompiling the kernel can be done rather quickly.
I have a question about something that I read in this article --------------------------- 5.Consider upgrading to kernel 2.2.13 or above. I upgraded to this kernel after writing the article and it seems to eliminate some Xwindows programs hanging up. ----------------------------
What is this? I thought the highest stable (2.2.x) series kernel was 2.2.12. (At least the last time I checked kernelnotes.org)
As if it wasn't bad enough to have the age old question, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" now we get another one. That could be the new version of the children's song, though. I can just see little kids walking around... "Which came first, the central bulge or the stellar disk?"
While I agree that the BP-6 is a wonderful board (I am using it as well with non-overclocked C-400's). I think on a production web site, you should play it safe and not overclock your processors. You want it to be stable. Your nice processors could burn up, even with a good heatsink and fan, and then you'd be out of a website. Besides the difference in price between Celeron 333's and 466's is not a whole lot. And, you're not guaranteed to be able to overclock. Some chips won't do it. And, a kernel compile with a dual C-400 is not much slower than with a C-500. I'm compiling X right now, or I'd time it.
I agree with this, sort of. I am not doing CS for the money, I just have always spent most of my waking hours at a computer anyway. I love it. So, that was my natural choice. But, I then realize how convenient it is to have something that I love that will most likely make a lot of money. I mean we all have ideals, but it's easy to say that I would do underwater basket weaving and nothing else if that was my passion. But, until you've been there, you don't know. I have friends who have had to take second majors so they would have a more marketable skill. I mean, you can't survive on ideals.
I think it is MS stuff. Hotmail is owned by Microsoft isn't it? It appears that way, by the big MSN Hotmail thing appearing on the main page. I've always stuck to Rocketmail...Owned by Yahoo.
I agree. Switching to a different windowing system seems almost out of the question. XFree86 supports a wide range of video cards, and it would take a lot of unecessary work to add all this support to a new windowing system. Speaking of video cards, does anyone know if there is any S3 Trio3D XFree86 Driver that supports more than 16 colors?

Very cool.
Maybe by that time I'll actually be able to afford one (Senioritis is setting in) -- or maybe Handspring will come out with a Color Visor.

ok, take out bulge and put in bugle...
Sorry, typo.

You should definitely consider making it a *BSD
box. A lot of large servers are BSD, and from
what I've heard, it can handle load a little
better.
As Homer Simpson would say
"Mmmmmmmm...1.6 Gigahertz."

BMP most likely stands for Bunim-Murray Productions
So does anybody have an idea how long it will be
until XFS is actually supported by the kernel? Hopefully soon.
