  1. Re:What utility software? on Submitting Bug Reports To Open Source Projects? · · Score: 1

I found the above statement interesting too. However, I thought the response might be a little bit harsh.

    > "You must remember, they're doing you a favor by reporting a problem with your code. keep that in mind."

Isn't the application developer doing to application user a favor by letting them have the software for free? There are a lot of favors to go around, but it seems to me the goal is to get better software. Maybe the person who discovered the bug isn't great in submitting in-depth, concise, and effective bug reports. Whether they have a willingness or capability to improve that skill, they'll never get the chance if 1) developers can't effectively interact with the novice, and 2) there is no effective way to get the bug to the developers. This topic originally started with the discussion about centralized/distributed bug reporting (i.e. getting a gaim error from RH to gaim developers). It would be nice to track the bugs, even if the reporters aren't as helpful as they could be.

Urban legend has it that someone once asked Seymour Cray what the programming language of SuperComputers would be in the 21st Century.

He reponded that he had no idea what it would look like, but he knew it would be called FORTRAN.

  3. Where can you find them? on Seiko TV Watch is now 20 years Old · · Score: 1

Last year I made an effort to see if I could track any down. Seiko doesn't produce them anymore, and I could find any used ones for sale. I remember James Bond using one in Octopussy, and tried to find some places that might have some left over. If anyone know of a place to get one, please let me know.

    >I don't know. Do you have to buy a device because it runs Linux? Maybe there are better OS-es for PDA's.

I, for one, was very interested in it because it was linux. Here, you have a PDA with an OS I am familiar with, means to add, change, and remove things at will. At the risk of appearing like an OpenSource zealot, Linux alone would have sold it, had everything else been equal.

However, it wasn't. When I originally checked them out, the case seemed somewhat flimsy. There wasn't enough memory, and it didn't really follow anyone else's 'standards' for accessories. But I never thought that the immaturity of PDA-Linux was a problem. It would have gotten better over time.
