Howso? While it's not a perfect adaptation, I thought it was pretty well in tune with the spirit of the book. It also kept the right pace - the hobbit isn't slow. There's no reason they should be making 9 hours of movie out of it. There really isn't. I'd see a single 3 hour movie (4 would be better). But 3 3 hour films? No way.

I will agree with that. I loved being able to get Sun support on the line when we had issues with our T5220's, and even our old SunFires. They worked quick, knew their stuff, and were, in general, awesome to work with. The last time we had an outage though, the problem was simple enough - the box had lost power, and when it was plugged back in openboot was set to autoboot? = false. So, it just sat there. Our operations team contacted oracle for support since most of them aren't very familiar with Sun. They were even more confused when they hopped on using a term server and saw iLOM's "Linux Kernel" prompts going by. The oracle support representative had no idea what they were talking about. By the time they got me on the horn, they had already been working with Oracle for about 3 hours. I had it fixed in 5 minutes (4 of which were trying to hunt down someone who had an RSA Keyfob I could use to log in to the term server). Considering the support money we give oracle, that was completely unacceptable. Sadly, I'm not the only one whose had this experience here - everything seems to have gone down hill since Oracle bought Sun.

You know, what would be neat is if the EFF and ACLU joined forces and set up something that does the same for android and IOS. Let you automatically upload files, and be able to live stream video to a secure server somewhere (think ustream). Also, it could have a reference on your rights for each particular state and what to say to the officer ("No officer, under statute 123 of Pennsylvania you can't take it. Also, according to the supreme court ruling of Blahblah v US you're actions are illegal. If you continue I will see you in a court of law."). Then when they take the phone anyway, the ACLU attorneys already have all the evidence they need. Specifically I could see it being useful for police chasers, but your average joe who happens to have it installed could also protect themselves and others.

No, by illegal they mean illegal. It was already against the law for the officers to do this. The official policy just solidified that it was unacceptable for officers to behave in this way in that department.

  11. Re:And my car gets 60 MPG going downhill on Comcast Launches Superfast Internet To Fight FiOS · · Score: 1

That's not how it works. You are only throttled when you exceed more than 10% of a given plant's line capacity in comparison to other subscribers. Remember, HFC with DOCSIS is a shared network medium, not a switched network medium, so it's not hard for one customer to actively diminish the experience of other users. For example if there are 10 timeslots available and user A is using 90% of them despite other users, those other users will begin to notice increased latency in any data they transmit. This also directly impacts anything which requires a level of QoS (like voice or your cable video) because the docsis scheduler has to fight with those users to ensure that QoS can be maintained. You may want to read up a little bit on how docsis works and think about how being a bandwidth hog really does impact other users. Your "15 minutes a day" statement is patently false. You can't legally drive a car down a superhighway that takes up 4 lanes without special permission. The same thing is true here too. The second your usage impacts other customers, we have to take action (I say we because I work for Comcast).

Not in Pennsylvania. We have an affirmative concealed carry law. The state has to prove that you shouldn't have a concealed carry license, so unless you've got an absurd number of parking tickets, or have a felony under your belt, you can have the permit.

Honestly depending where he lives, he might not have an issue. Local farms are a source of meat, if you talk to the farmers you can find out what they feed their stock (most of them are more than glad to answer actually). Lots of foods can be foraged (I make trips once a week to forage as a hobby) and during the summer it can yield several pounds of berries at a time. These get canned, preserved, or jellied. I grow a huge garden and what I can't eat immediately gets either dehydrated or canned. Public water here has its contents documented, so we'll consider that open source. I grow my own hops, and brew my own beer with them. Honestly after a good growing season, I'd feel comfortable saying that I could live around 70% off of foraged and homegrown foods. I could easily up it to 90-100% but my fiance would kill me for taking over the yard. Not that my case is the norm (and foraging is a weird, albiet fun and fulfilling hobby to get into), but if he is dedicating himself to it and preparing in advance I don't think it would be that difficult.

The sole downside is that I couldn't use the car for a few days on highways while they waited for the part to be delivered.
