"I think it's mildly unfortunate that the KDE camp considered itself so cornered that it felt compelled to issue miffed- and wounded-sounding position statements that it will continue to fight the good fight."
It would be nice had the author noted the actual statements rather than just give his opinion of them. What exactly was he referring to here?

Amen, some of the newbies need to learn. I can't stand how many people I've had to correct about RMS.
I'm running RMS 2.2b the "angry icon" release currently, and contrary to many ill informed users, it's stable as hell.
Although personally I would be much more likely to throw my support behind WC than some ill informed Sony exec who feels the need to shoot his mouth off:-)
"We will develop technology that transcends the individual user. We will firewall Napster at source -- we will block it at your cable company, we will block it at your phone company, we will block it at your [Internet-service provider]. We will firewall it at your PC."
Do they control the horizontal and the vertical as well? Should I not be adjusting my TV?
Oh please, what a PHB kinda observation. Judging people's work ethic by absolute rules regarding how their desk looks to you . . . I'm almost positive I saw that in a Dilbert comic somewhere.
Everyone works differently. Personally my desk goes through phases of utter clutter (I actually just had to look for a min to find my mouse), or where I can't stand things being out of place. It usually depends on what I'm working on.
It just wreaks havoc when your working on a computer. I've yet to find much of a solution for it except taking matters into my own hands and shielding the monitor from the lights with something above the monitor.
I still remember the night I saw The Wizard. Being a little Nintendo freak (Sega sucks!) how could I miss it? That was the day I realized that there were adults out there who would do anything to get a few $ from anyone. Just slap a popular brand name on anything no matter how much it stinks, as long as it gets the $ from the kiddies. I still have my free little Nintendo Power mag that they gave out for free to get kids to subscribe.
"It is armed with a pistol that can be programmed to shoot automatically or wait for a fire order delivered with a password from anywhere through the Internet,"
Anywhere through the internet! Yes, very good idea.
I'm glad the biggest concern I have is that the automatic doors in my building might close on me accidentally, or I forget my ID badge and get locked out of my wing of the building when going to get a Coke or Pepsi.
Let the paranoid and psychotic (not to mention entertaining) speculation about Eazel's true future plans for Linux begin!
I should note that all those Es look awfully suspicious too. Could be a sign that they are funded by a large number of venture capitalists bent on expanding the use of the letter E and then copyrighting that letter.
Could this stop online voting for a while?

I'm sure if online voting were implemented in larger elections we would see a many more attacks, and from many more people. I'm sure there are plenty of other organizations that would to effect American (or any other nation for that matter) elections. I wonder if this won't be the biggest obstacle to online voting.
If we were to implement online voting in the US for a national election, I wonder if it would even be technically possible due to the sheer number of attacks sure to come.
Chairman:
Yes, Mr. Perrine we appreciate your views on this subject. However, you have not answered my original question.
Do you know the location of agent Mulder?!
I'd suggest hop on your local LUG's mailling list. In my experence LUGs can be nice, or really bad. I recently moved and my local LUG is "h8x0r 133t" if you know what I mean. They're quick to flame and at least three or four times a week preach to one another about how great linux is. Outside of that, not much else happens with them.
Yeah, it would be cool to hang with some other geeks. I like where I work and all, however I'm pretty much the only linux geek of sorts really. The local LUG is nice but somewhat h8x0r 133t, if you know what I mean. It would be cool to mingle and with people with different ideas and such.
As for the trolls:
Fortunately trolls can be threatened physically in person and I don't think they would be much of a problem at such events. Then again you never know, there might be people running around interjecting comments about Ms. Portman into conversations for all I know.
Am I the only one who gets a little jealous when we see all these stories about people going to all these Linux conferences? I never hear about them until after or just before they happen. Is there a site that has information on when where and what the focus of each of the Linux conferences are?
Better yet is there a way we geeks who don't live in cities that don't have these conferences can band together and go in hoards (is that the right term for a group of geeks?) of geeks? Perhaps if we were organized in groups we could save a few $ on airplane and hotel rooms. Someone could probably even make a few $ of they organized these trips and sold them and found some customers.

I should note that my TV is a Panasonic.
Does that make a difference?
That does sound somewhat similar.

I wonder if such tech could fix things like this on the web or ordinary people?

If I remember it was somewhere just at or above 30 I believe (although that could have changed).
However, the FAQ is right, if you use it your more likely to find yourself more harshly moderated. At times I chose not to use it.
I knew the exact quote. I was looking more for the spelling, definition and use of the word, but thanks anyway.
Let them wallow in their own false crapulence, those fools!
I'm so not sure about the spelling there, or really how to use the word properly. I heard Mr. Burns use it once. Maybe someone can correct me?

That's what they want you to think.
That is their patsy logo to distract you from their true plans for Linux.

50mph, dang that seems fast. Have past (successful) landings also been that fast?

Now we'll see more stupid processor names like Ebola and the Salmonella III.
So much for eating near my computer.
