I'd say it's an upper-mid-class joke.And if we put jokes and sarcasm aside: I am a Linux user and I think you're quite right about the levers but think that about rebuilding the engine is quite away from the truth(an automotive OS and software are supposed to be CLOSED ones, well, not so open, so there should be no big problems with compatibility--the progs will be written by only the manufacturer).And why 'at a constant 12mph'? Linux is quite a fast OS.
