Yes! That is a good plan and I hope to find some time soon to work on it. Maybe we should open up a project on sourceforge. A couple of comments:
* The Lycos approach with the screensaver is very good and I think more people would install a screensaver that a daemon.
* The project should run on all platforms (Linux,BSD, Windows , MacOSX). I don't know how easily this can be done for a screensaver.
* The program does not have to advertise itself as hammering spammer web sites. It be something like this:
ILoveSpam v1.1: This program is intended for spam lovers. It will periodically visit spam sites that the user is interested in and download relevant information, saving it on the user's hard disk.
I believe there are no grounds on any legal action on this program.
As a final comment, this is a war and it is a war with all the meaning of such a word. I'm sure it is not possible to convince everybody that it is a right way of action. However, guessing from the popularity of Lycos screensaver there are a lot of people that agree. Spammers of course will not stay without doing anything and that is something that will create complications. But I believe that this war can be won and sometime soon it is possible to have a spam free interet.
Personally I find most of the arguments against Lycos anti-spam screensaver naive. Most people don't even realize that their approach is legal.
Is it kind of "vigilante"? You can argue about that but I believe that right now it is the best approach until the "lawful" guys can manage sometime in the next millenium to find another effective way to battle spam.
So is anyone else interested in developing another similar screensaver or other hammering tool that will also run on Linux?

Sure there are, see Nokia. Sure the have some with color screens/cameras etc.. But they know how to make a hell of a good basic phone, and they still have a lot of basic "just a phone" stuff in their line. Most of their phones last over a week with some approaching 2 weeks on a single charge.
See Nokia 6310, 6510 , 3100. If you want even more basic, they've got the perfect phone for you: Nokia 1100 with up to 17 days of battery life.
Well in Europe (at least in Greece), if you have a plan every year you're given a new phone. Yes you're given a new phone for free every 12 months (or 18 depending on the plan). Granted, you have to choose among the baseline models available for that year but you can upgrade paying the price difference. That's why every family in Europe has an average of 5 mobile phones.
Two or three days on a single charge? Men, I don't know what kind of phones you have in the US but my last 3 phones were able to do at least a week on a single charge. 3-4 days was the standard 5 years ago but now anything under 6 days standby is considered major drawback. For the record that is about phones sold in Europe, I guess Japan people don't care so much about that.
I was expecting something like the way the photos are processed, kind of cropping, sharpening and this stuff. Instead the article goes on to specify what brand of computers or use card readers they use and how many images they capture before they have a good shot. Not worthy of reading definetely.
Check out also the Sennheiser PXC250 headphones. They use the same technology used to reduce noise in airplane cockpits and they are very small and ver portable also. Quite amazing effect especially when you use it in an airplane! At last you can sleep i these long trans-atlantic flights.
Hey everybody, stop the philosophical discussion about whether companies actually sell 160GB drives as 80GB or whatever. Anybody that can try and verify if this works would be very welcome otherwise it is just not useful discussion.
In fact sunlight is not only known to be beneficial but also absolutely necessary for your body to produce Vitamin D. It the source of almost all of your vitamin D so... Also note the fact that exposure to below normal amounts of sunlight (such as people from northern countries) is directly linked to high percentages for depression and suicide attempts.
The other ideas too are not very well thought. Guns possesion does not appear to have influence on crime rates, which makes the question redundant.
In my opinion it is one of the million of those scientific books produced in the States that are not worth reading (not to mention buying). Please avoid. STOP.

There is no such country named as Macedonia, probably the author meant to write F.Y.R.O.M.
