Oh definitely it's gonna get worse. However you have to wonder whether they'll be sneaky about it, passing various unconstitutional laws like the DMCA and hoping that the general population fails to realize what's really going on, or whether congress will just up and revise the constitution, striping away our personal freedoms in the name of anti-terrorism and such.
Yet another example of the infinities of human stupidity, by the time Joe Idiot realizes that his rights are being infringed on, there won't be any way for him to fight back.
Censorship is bad no matter what you're dealing with. Where there exists the potential for 'good' censorship there exists the potential for 'bad' censorship.
Admittedly censorship in the US isn't nearly as bad as it is elsewhere but it exists, and ultimately someone has to be deciding what should and shouldn't be censored.
Since what another person considers offensive and worthy of being blocked may not nessisarily be offensive to me I feel that whoever is in charge of censoring has too much power. The only person who should be able to decide what I want to hear about is me.
I believe that's one of the basic tenants behind freenet, and although I don't use Freenet I fully support them.
That might work, but personally I think it would be more effective if we castrated the spammers. Sure they're not always easy to track down, but once you get a couple, the word'll spread and spam should die down.
I mean it worked for the RIAA when they sued kazaa users. The statistical likelyhood of you being singled out for a lawsuit by them was worse than the chance you'd win the lottery, but still it stopped a lot of file sharers.
Sure most spammers would likely get away with spamming. But how many of them do you think would give it up if they found out a few of their fellow spammers got castrated.
Oh gawd, I can just see it now, I'll be at home watching the news and there'll be some story about a horrible fire that killed a bunch of people and caused some significant property damage. Then the chief of the fire department in whatever city this happens in will come on and say that they traced it back to some script kiddy who decided to pick up one of these l33t wooden cases and then over clocking their woefully outdated processor to the melting point.
You can't blame them, the posters couldn't post this sooner, anything free stuff is just too much for a typical nerd like us, never mind if it's free, a game, AND a convention.

If women don't need us for reproduction anymore, where will us straight guys get our sex?
