In the same line of thought, today if you cant verify that the radar gun or breathlizer being used to convit you is accurate tomorrow how will you be able to tell if the DNA being used to convit you of rape is accurate. Certianally, most cops are honest and law abiding but if we take away societys ablity to check these convictions other convictions are soon to follow. Following your line of though we should just take it a gospil everytime an officer walks into a court and says someone is guilty. Why even bother with a trail if an officer thinks someone comitted a crime we should just convit them on that. Better yet just have them disapper in the middle of the night.

I entirely disagree. You infulance politics by talking to your friends and family about the importance of your beliefs. If you belive something and you convice some people, it might not be much but eventually the congressmen start to feel the pressue to take other positions. If you think that just because you think the current IP laws are wrong overnight the rest of socity will change I think you are going to be disappointed (clearly you already are) but if you are willing to say whats right today, tomorrow and 10 years from now things will change. Look at drug laws, in some cities and towns cops are no longer arresting people for it. People and States dont continue to belive a little marijuana makes you an unamerican communist. In genral societys opinion of things has changed over the past 20 years and the mass opinion shift was not at once but a long series of individuals and organizations like NORML making the case day after day. If places like slashdot keep the faith with a distaste for current IP laws the feeling will spread and no amout of money can stop the will of the people. Money can make things easier and quicker or harder and slower but it cannot stop the will of the people.

There have been studies done such that if we moved all of our energy to wind what whould the effect on the globe be. The study showed that it taking all this energy from wind would effect the climate drastically. What we need is exactly what you are talking about some solar where it makes sense and other energy where it makes sense. Using any energy will have an effect but if there are many different sources the negative effects will not be quite so piled up.

The president gets a pot of money from Congress spend under the guide lines he chooses. If Congress give the executive branch $100 million for medical research the execurtive branch then chooses who gets the money and what topics get the cash. So the president can simply say I will not spend this money or I will spend this money to research different medical programs. Possibly adult stem cells or cord blood stem cells.
