Please forgive me Matt, I didn't mean to reflect poorly on the Company, but in the two years I have been a customer of Iron Realms, I have never once been disapointed. When the character creation is back up, I urge you all to give it a try, as it is by far the best MUD out there.
AI has it's limits as we all know. It after all is still just a computer and computers, allthough being able to do things faster than humans, cannot act like a human. It still requires the user. Now adaptive AI is a thought, and seems to work well from the games I've played (Splinter Cell, pretty much anything by Tom Clancy), allthough I think there is a limit on not only what the computers are capable of, but also what we want them to do. The whole premise of video games is to get an adreneline rush by doing something we normally would not do, but a completely realistic game is not at all wanted. Would you go to the movies to see a James Bond movie where James gets shot in the first fight scene because he cannot avoid the hundreds of shots coming at him while he is running around? I don't think so. We need our heros to have a bit of a superhero quality and our villans to have inherant flaws. Having a real video game would suck, because as opposed to being able to be shot multiple times in some games, one shot and you would be down pretty much.
As for the AI, we need them to be stupid, and not be expert marksman. We want challenges, but if these situations were happening in real life, there is absolutely no way the person would survive. Anyway, thats fust my thoughts on the matter. =)
While I see your point, I can hardly agree with the comparison of the German Regime in the 1930's to the current US Government (Note: this is not to imply democrats or republicans do a better job, just that the way the US Gov't is set up is different, so please don't spam the comments with political propaganda =D). As it was said earlier in the comments, I don't really feel that I have anything to hide. To me, this is similar to a current debate in my state about traffic intersection cameras. If you aren't doing anything illegal at the intersection, then why do you need to worry!?! Anywho, you did make a good point with the fact that anyone's personal decisions will be changed based on personal experiences, so Kudos for mentioning that! In summation, I don't think the analysis of Nazi Germany to current US is quite accurate, but the government is held responsible at some level for protecting us.
Bah, sorry about that. I just got typing and I wasn't thinking. I didn't mean to say that they were supporting open source, rather that they would release a previously proprietary game to the masses. Sorry about that.
This is great! Thanks so much for the info. GTA has been a great dynasty of games, and even with the advances that GTA III and Vice City have reached, the original GTA still will always remain a classic. I haven't gotten to play Wild Metal, but I will as soon as I get home. I appluade Rockstar for their support of the open source world, in releasing these old versions of the games. Rockstar continues to impress me always, first with their games, then with their actions.
I'm still waiting for them to announce the G5 powerbook. That would be a nice joke. =D
does it slice, dice and make Juliane fries also? Gotta have my fries. Yumm...
