  1. More sales for everybody on Da Vinci Code Author Sued · · Score: 1

Having worked for a major chain bookstore since Da Vinci came out and actually being one who read it as an advanced copy, I am amazed that this is happening now. Da Vinci Code is due to be released as a paperback, both trade and mass market, sometime like the 15th of March, sorry can't remember exactly. Anyway, when it first came out it put Holy Blood, Holy Grail on the paperback bestseller list, virtually making that book a household name as well. So, why is it now that the authors decide to sue their publishing company. Are they afraid that they won't make a few more barrels of money once the long awaited paperback of Da Vinci Code comes out and their book is back in the spotlight. I know the company I work for is planning on having a huge Da Vinci display and their book will be prominently displayed.

So I guess I ask, is it all for publicity or have they been hiding under a stone for three years?

  3. killing time by caleb carr on How The Web Ruined The Encyclopedia Business · · Score: 1

I do not find it surprising that the internet is killing the encyclopedia. Kind of like I feel that the mega-bookstore (i.e. Barnes & Noble, maybe Borders) seems to be replacing the library. It seems easy for people to log on in their home and zoom around cyberspace looking for answers. But it makes me think of Caleb Carr's book "Killing Time." The novel, set in the not to distant future is about the power of the internet and the power of the information on it. Kind of like the classic line from "Wag the Dog," "It was on TV it must be true." Just because it can be found on the internet, just how accurate is it. At least the Encyclopedia Brittanica is held to rigid standards of data. As such I am left to wonder then about the overall accuracy of the research being done. Just because it is on the internet does not make it true.
