They could always set up a wiki themselves. My webhost, DreamHost offers a wiki as part of their services. The school could set one up and input accurate info which the students would be allowed to refer, or maybe they are too lazy.
About 10 years ago, I purchased a couple of equipment racks at a flea market (swap meet, etc?), not caring what was in them. I found, after hauling them home, that I had 2 Honeywell hard drives, last used in the '70's. When I powered them up, the drives spun up!
In about 9 feet of rack space, 72 megabytes of drive space was realized. This included the drives, memory, controller and ups. What a find! (I still have the racks)
Check out the Access Grid at WPI http://www.wpi.edu/Academics/CCC/HPC/AG/ I have been in this room for a talk with Illiad (userfriendly.org) and Australia. It works great!
I have the same problem updating winme. My wife's machine and one machine I use at work are running me and updates hang the machine (not to mention the inability of file and printer sharing, and the issues trying to get it to print to a tcp (network) printer...opps, I said I wasn't going to mention that...)
You can do this now (on a limited basis). In most communities that have cable tv, there is a little known resource called a cable access studio (or community media center, etc.) that will allow one to take a camcorder out, shoot footage, edit, and play it back over a dedicated cable channel. They will even teach you how to use the equipment!

God did create the world in 6 days, but God's day is just a little longer than a man's day.

You won't see this on m$nbc!
