This is completely stupid. If you run exchange why pay for corporate Blackberry's and servers? Half the population now has smart phones why not let them use their own phones rather than purchases equipment? do you thi k it makes good business sense to buy your users additional devices to do something they can do at no cost to you? does your company have webmail or VPN access.
Perhaps your office supply people don't think people should be allowed to bring their own pens either.
I might be wrong but I don't think they bought Siri on a per device license. as far as the ipad2 it's not that surprising, the iPhone 4 has a more limited voice control that does not exist on either iPad model.
freezing a drive won't nessarly destroy the platter. You can sometimes recover data from a head crash by freezing the drive and then spinning it up because the head arm has shrunk from the cold pulling the head off the drive. also a data recovery company could recover a from just the platter even if the electronics in the drive are broken.
Put the drives in a big pile with burnable trash and lighter fluid and let them burn at a high temperature. Only the very rich would be able to get data off them once the platters melt and since your cheap I doubt you have information worth the very expensive effort to recover.
The difference is an iPhone is rarely ever booted while a Windows computer is booted often. I do see the difference in what they are doing however the way they are applied for general use is fair to compare awake time to boot time. Also I bet if you timed it the awake time for your Windows Laptop I bet is 10 time slower from time you try to awake it to the time you can do anything.
Nobody is going to pay a subscription model price for OS. Consumers want to pay once for a computer not reoccurring, considering many how many users only browse web and send emails, wouldn't MS just be pushing people towards smart phones and iPads? MS needs to consider a post windows world and consider the fact that word process g plus spreadsheet software should not cost in the hundreds of dollars.
what males you think that? Have you ever worked with a Microsoft product like SharePoint or CRM they are written entirely in.Net? How bout the fact that of you combine VB and VB.Net code there are more lines the. Any other language used by businesses including C and COBOL. How bout the fact SQL is partially written.NET. what about the fact the primary framework for Windoes Phone is in SilverLight? Think you have no clue what your talking about, MS isn't going to give up on.Net VB.net or C#. they tried to make Siverlight a flash killer they failed and Steve Jobs figured out how to, but that us hardly a sign that.Ne tis in the way out, neither is the support for HTML5 live tiles in Windows 8.
The faster boot time is a shell game, corporate IT environments do most of the work at user login which causes users to be unproductive for 2 - 5 minutes. Even at an 8 second boot time consumers will feel like that is very slow next to the instan on of most smart phones and the Microsoft killing iPad.
as far as tablet pricing goes there is no way a tablet can take the Windows price and compete on price with iPad unless MS is willing to sacrifice profit for marketshare even then I don't know if they can compete in the tablet space.
The ribbon is spreading even without the 8, it's in paint on 7. I sat through a meeting with a MS "sales technician" where he stated customers were begging for a ribbon interface on SharePoint that's why 2010 has a ribbon. Not as bad as when he said they need to keep account content about Phone 7 because everybody wants to know so much about it.
I did work tech support early in my career and I would hate to work any tech support job. Obviously consumer tech support is worse than internal business help desk since at a business most people won't flip out on their coworkers.
It will probably be a setting to go straight to desktop, O can't I agine corporate clients will want things like CSR reps and accountants logging into the tiles and no desktop. If you can't do it through settings I'm sure it will be scriptable.
The O/S makes sense the browser makes no sense. If you market two browsers you need to patch and secure both, you need to waste time explaining to uses when to use each, and you dilute your product line by having two virtually identical products to 99% of your customers.
It makes sense for nothing but killing your flagship product. They must have Oedipus in marketing now, let's replace the worlds most well known user interface and replace it with one from a very unpopular phone O/S
Because consumers don't care about crack ability. smart phones and tablets could be compared to game consoles, very few people buy a Wii or PS3 and expect to be able to install a new OS. Hell you can't even buy software that hasn't been licensed by Sony or Nintendo for those platforms seems pretty similar to Apple system doesn't it.
This is a stupid argument, why doesn't Apple just sell empty boxes since people will spend hundreds of dollars on things that they don't really want in your estimation. The iPad offers many advantages over some crappy consumer laptop with things such as zero boot time, better battery life, and lighter weight to name a few. The idea that it has no use is crazy it can be used for hundreds of different applications as well or better than a laptop. Your basic arguement is the IPad is a fad because it is a worse type writer, well Desktops are better with full size keyboards so I guess we should consider laptops fads as well.
I would think make an Android tablet that rather than be stock is greatly simplified so users can configure and be up and running. Apple is eating other alive because 1 they market what the product does while other companies are marketing tech jargon like dual core tephra 2 processor. 2 it is easy to configure. 3 they have a retail outlet that only sells Apple products. 4 they are a large support network which includes free setup service at their stores. the average slashdot reader wouldn't need help configuring email or wifi settings but very many non-IT related people struggle with simple things like this.
You think Android sales are based on open and free. Most people could careless about wither, it's called Android 2 for 1 deals on Verizon and major Droid marketing by all carriers without the iPhone. Also 2:1 android to iPhone makes it sound like they are the only two platforms, what a bouts Windows Phone and Blackberry?
The Xoom and Playbooks problem is price, the iPad is extremely competitive at it's price, they see them as fast as they can build them. It was only about a month ago that you could even begin to order an iPad online and have it ship within 24 hours. I can remember two years ago when all the predictions said it would cost over $1000 and be less capable. The iPad starting at 499 let's it compete nicely with notebooks.
Let's see do most people care about being able to browse and edit system files? do most people want a device with a ten hour battery life or a 1.5 hour battery life? How about instant on or 2 minute boot time? How about a device that runs cool without a fan or a device that sounds like it is about to take off from the runway when it kicks on it's fan and is still very warm to touch?
I don't think there is any comparison between the 9 and 10 inch tablets and a smart phone, the screen area is much greater. I hardly think 5inch phones could be considered a threat to anything except to their own companies balance sheets, they are just too big to be convenient as a phone. Dell Streak anyone???
The iPad is still in it's growth phase, sales aren't waining. One thing the press and so called analysts have been slow to catch on to is that iPads and perhaps other tablets if someone's creates one replace laptops and pcs for many home users. So the tablet is a replacement product for some users and a complimentary product for others, it will continue to show strong growth for years.

A hammer is worthless for destroying the platters. If you have the platters out you might as well just shred them or cut them up somehow.
If you only have one drive that is fine, what if you have two hundred drives and they are not already in a computer?

what is wrong wih including an app store if it isn't required?

That's not true most telephone networks are packet switched now, you do it with software hacking if you gain access to the right systems.
