The rest of the world is held back by their own socialist governments. Consistently, everyone picks on and hates the successful entity. The USA is successful. Should the USA stop being successful so that people will "like" it? If the USA stoops to the level of most european countries, would it have more freedom, less taxes, a better economy, a better military, etc....??? The answer of course is no. Individuals would be be worse off, have less freedom, less privacy, and degraded ability to be who they want to be. If the USA is so horrid, than why do mexicans and numerous other immigrants continually flood into this country, often risking life and limb to get here? Why? Because they can actually leave a hopelessly corrupt, poor country where they have almost no chance of getting a leg up in life, and they can come to a place that gives them a chance, lets them decide their own fate. The idea that the USA must lower it's standards to be on the same level with the other, not so successful nations, is utterly ridiculous. This is the same as asking Microsoft to give it's money, time, and code to help Sun. It's against every form of competition.
Globalism is socialism; the idea that everyone can be equal. In order for this to work, I have to give up my rights and freedoms and conform to the weakest link on earth (China? Ethiopia? Cuba?). I wasn't born to be a slave of a government.

It strikes me that if the Noah's Ark story is true then what goes with it is true as well... or do we believe some of the story and not the parts we don't wanna believe?
I hope they gain funding from somewhere, it's a cool project. Even if we couldn't save certain species now, in the future no doubt we'll be able to regain some of the lost. It'd be nice to populate remote islands with lab-grown dinosaurs... or new planets with lab-grown dogs/owls/leopards.
I think that they can raise the rates. Eventually the rates will stay where people are ok with paying them, OR they will get too high and the people will opt to NOT have broadband and the demand will disappear. This will lead to price drops.
As much as I love having broadband, I will only pay so much. Part of the market working is the fact that you can't force people to buy your crap.

It was slow, boring, and it was VERY apparent that the writer/director had a huge soapbox to stand up on and "make me think" or to push his own views.
The beginning was the best part, but even the beginning lacked any interest and passion. It went down hill fast from there getting slow and not losing my attention (which is hard to do).

I firmly believe that if you aren't voting, then quit whining.
My personal responsibility says that I don't have the right to whine and throw a fit unless I've actually made a real honest effort to make a difference.
This differs from millions of people who whine about the government, but on the griping hand, they don't vote. They don't even take 30 minutes out of their day to add their two cents to the whole mess. I believe my vote doesn't matter a whole lot, but I know that it does matter a little bit.

TV is really a bad thing for me because I sit in front of it. This sounds so simplistic, but to me, I have better things to do than sit down in front of a box and do nothing. I like TV too much, but it tends to make me inactive and it doesn't teach me anything.
I can think of a hundred better things to do with my time than TV, and the net is one of them. Sleep rates really high as well.

Due to this lack of a true exsting system, it would seem fairly easy to design one from the ground up. Make it web based, use SQL and XML.
This would take no time at all to have a good multiuser system for unlimited use. Instead of buying some huge ass system, install the thing on a dual 750 with 512mb running Apache on Linux and let it go. That should handle almost any one library.
Would cost you nothing to host and nothing to maintain. (I'm over-simplifying.)

I love SCSI, I love IDE. I will buy IDE because of the price. My only gripe with IDE is the number of devices on your typical mobo. thats it.
Other then that, IDE is better because it's so cheap. In a world of PC's that don't touch the theoretical limit anyways, what do I care about burst speeds? So far so good with me!

I think this is a bad idea for a host of reasons most of which won't list. The cost/benefit comparison here doesn't match up. What does this implant give me in order to make it worth the hassle? A little more convenient? BAH. We americans are much to fast paced and into conveniences anyways. This is a tracking device, this is a built in Credit card, this is a human ID number. The possibilities for abuse are enormous. I don't want to be tracked. I'm not so lazy that I need a built in Credit card, I don't want to or need to be sped up.
This is a step toward losing my freedom.
Forget it. Nobody can convince me that this is a good idea. If everyone else gets this and the technology becomes "necessary" then the ones who don't accept this will be branded as weird, freaky, "something to hide", different, anti-social. Maybe those people just don't wanna be tagged???
