It's not a static IP then... it's a dynamic IP with an infinite lease. There is a difference. As others have said, DHCP hands out other important information other than the actual address. Do I agree that "static DHCP" could work for broadband internet? Sure it would be really nice... well that is until your router at home dies and you don't know the mac address of the WAN port on said dead router which then leaves that ip address lost unless you call your ISP and have them release that lease from their pool/remove the binding to MAC address. That is one good reason why this thought process does NOT work. But hell what do I know, I'm just a router monkey.
I know that not everyone knows this, but this is pretty old news to us Amateur Radio operators. We have know that solar activity effects radio propogation for what must seem like forever... Just saying.
I totally agree with you. Granted, he could condense everything down to just a handful of radios, but that is totally up to him. I really wish the original poster would know what they are talking about though. FM isn't a band, it is an operating mode just like AM (DSB), SSB, CW, RTTY, packet, etc. HF, VHF, UHF are not bands either, they are ranges of frequencies. 2 meters is a band. As far as I'm concerned ( and this is just MY opinion ) the person that owns that car is the type amateur radio operator that gives responsible operators a bad image to the general public. As a ham operator myself I find it disgraceful to be associated with someone with a mentality like that.

I agree, crossloop is the way to go. if you can't walk someone through getting crossloop working then maybe that person shouldn't have a computer to mess up.
I don't know where you live but here in NY, you can be a full RN in 2 years. 4-5 (if i'm not mistaken) will make you to be a nurse practitioner and that's where there is really good money. 3 years in school will make you an PA, not to bad monetarily around here either.
elitist hobby for techno-geeks? This comment alone is one of the reason that the world is the way it is today. People are ignorant of what they don't know or understand. Maybe you don't care about ham radio. Maybe or thing is prostitutes... personally who cares about prostitutes? If you have a personality that can attract a real woman to have real relationship with, then you don't need prostitutes. A second point, ham radio has and will be as long as it is around, a stating point for many that grow up (unlike the poster) to become such things as engineers... For those people that are ignorant (like the poster) engineers design things that you might use. Ham radio is not only used for a hobby and for enjoyment, but also as emergency backup communications for many facilities, include hospitals. As an emergency coordinator i have seen/been involved first hand in these situations. Just because you (said poster again) don't like or understand something doesn't mean its useless. Ignorance is one or the sadist things i know of, right next to the words "I don't know how, do it for me!"

Just to correct everyone on the topic of the Code requirement. The FCC dropped Morse code as a requirement for any and all amateur radio exams as of the end of Feb. of this year. up until then a code test was needed for a general or extra class license, but now no code is required. Code can still be used if an operator knows it but a test is not needed to prove one knows it. It is just another mode that we amateur radio operators can use.
