I talked to someone who set up a Petabyte array many years ago (he had a *lot* of funding). It seems that when you put tens of thousands of disks together, your total mean time between failures becomes, well, for all those disks, every few minutes. They had someone full time whos job was to go around replacing disks all day.

We just got a lecture at our schoool (The Jerusalem College of Technology) by a company that implemented that same technology, Geosym Systems.

Perhaps if they would provide virtual streets, we could provide buildings, and we could have a virtual 'net a la SnowCrash.
With plan9 you can select text to be run when you release the button, ie:
Press button 3 to highlite text. When you let go, what's highlited get's immidietly run in rc (the terminal). No need to press enter or anything...
That WM is crazy.
