To charge that much money for a laptop AND have it weigh in at 9 pounds, Dell must be out of their mind....
I personally think it's probably destined to be remembered about as well as the Macintosh Portable, or the "Luggable"....as a fairly useless and/or non-portable laptop....
"Aw crap, here comes Enderle... what do you think, two or three reboots during this meeting just so we can listen to that stupid WAV? Doesn't he know he can just double click it?" (quoted from a post on Macslash)
That would be too difficult for Enderle, regularly featured on AtAT as a not-terribly-bright in-duh-vidual.
About the laptop itself, blech. I do give Acer some credit, though, that's among the nicest PC laptops I've seen in a while. Red just isn't my color, though 8^)
Perhaps "light" means "we took out all the parts that make it quasi-functional to begin with" along with the usual connotation of leaving a bad taste in your mouth from its use....
Although I am happy that funds like this are reviving the human desire to develop more space bound technology, this x prize is to jumpstart the space tourism industry.
Not that I wouldn't personally love to have a chance to travel in space myself, but NASA should be more concerned with keeping its astronauts and shuttles in shape.
Why can't the movie and music industries act as ethically as the porno industry!?!
Ouch. Sad, but true....
It's a sad state of affairs when what is considered the dirtiest industry is making headlines for having better manners and ethical standards (at least in this particular respect) than the "cleaner" parts of the entertainment industry......
And, of course, the RIAA could learn a lil from this. (So too could the IRS - you can't squeeze blood from a turnip, nor can you squeeze millions of dollars out of little kids)
Blech.
Micro$uck's current search engine is comparable IMHO to ye old HotBot and the GO network...
Google has been well established and generates significantly more useful results in most cases in all genres (yes, including pr0n as indicated earlier) than anything Microshaft can ever come up with.
Microsoft != innovator.
The biggest problem with this legislation is the simple fact that you can't legislate common sense, nor can you legislate very effectively good driving skills.
For example: New York has a ban on using cell phones while driving. Do people pay attention to it? No. I was almost hit by a moron talking on his cell phone who came within five feet of my car going the wrong way on a divided parkway.
The California law seems to do everything but that - and will likely be equally as effective. One more reason not to move to California.

Hopefully this doesn't spur on further developements such as the planned russian tourist space station...
