Why should they be forced to pay into a system they don't need or benefit from? I'm pretty sure they have all the health insurance and retirement savings they want; why should they throw money into programs designed to provide those things?

  2. Re:Math Software? on Open Source Math Software For Education? · · Score: 1

I can confirm that UIUC Mathematica-based math classes are very easy to pass. My last semester, I took a linear algebra class which I *thought* was self-paced. Didn't even look at the class webpage until after my senior project was done...oops, we had a test two weeks ago. And about six homework assignments. So I talked to the professor and he said "We'll just count your final double." I was too far behind to fully catch up, so I took a look at the practice exam to see how much I could figure out. Lo and behold, about 75% of the final exam questions were straight from the practice exam, no changes whatsoever.

So I took one exam (which I aced) and turned in one or two homework assignments. My final grade? D, as in Diploma.

Cue Tommy Boy: D+? Alright! I passed! I get to graduate!

Maximus DVD is a decent, free, non-crudware-bundled software DVD player for Windows. It is apparently no longer supported, but a google search will turn up several sites where the latest version can be downloaded. It can also play DVD files off your hard drive (which I use sometimes due to an older DVD drive freezing up during playback).

And recent versions of Windows Media Player will play DVDs.

Actually, you do. Check out the Constitution Party -- they're both pro-life and pro-2nd amendment (along with the rest of the Constitution, which both major parties tend to ignore.)

  5. Uses voice, not physiological response on Lie Detector Glasses Coming Soon · · Score: 1

The algorithms used for the "love detector" (and the security applications) measure variations in your voice, not physiological feedback (heart rate, skin conductivity, etc). My uncle is one of the founders of V, the North American distributor. He brought the truth detecting version of the software to a family get-together at Thanksgiving, and it is pretty amazing. For example, if I wear a certain pair of shoes every day, I might say that I wear them "all the time". The software flags this as a probable falsehood; while this is a commonly used phrase, and I'm not trying to mislead anyone, I do unconsciously know that I don't wear my shoes while I'm sleeping.

I'm sure this love detector software isn't quite as advanced (in the version we played with, you had to talk for a few seconds to give the software a baseline), it most likely can give you a good idea if someone is attracted to you.

  6. Easy to crack manually on Microsoft Word Forms Passwords Hacked · · Score: 2, Informative

I've modified "protected" Word documents by opening them in Notepad and scrolling through the last few lines until I find a string of plain text that looks like a password (i.e. isn't a username or Word setting). Although this takes a bit more time for the searching, there's no need to modify the password at all.
