  1. how about Adobe AIR? on Adobe Stops Flash Player Support For Android · · Score: 1

I work in a company that insists in using Flash and AIR for mobile products - I've tried unsuccessfully to convince the management to switch to native development. With this news, does anyone knows what Adobe is planning in regard to AIR? Some news that Adobe was kicking AIR aside would be wonderful to finally convince them to make the switch.

And that is why the Microsoft stack is separated from the Mono stack.. You have all the Microsoft's patented ideas in one stack for the purpose of Dotnet compatibility, and on the other hand you have a set of all-new APIs that are mono-specific. My point in the previous post is: I don't see Mono as a bridge between Windows-Dotnet and Linux-Mono - but a way to DEVELOP true multiplatform aplications using Mono. You can even compare it to Java - but then you have more languages and a more reliable open source VM (because in a free software's point of view, java is not really that safe)

In speaking of not talking about GNUmeric because people may not like Miguel de Icaza for the Mono project:

I don't really understand what is the real problem about it. Yes, .NET is a "creation" of Microsoft and we all know that Microsoft is the big bad wolf that wants to eat all our grandmothers - but still it may have good ideas and just because they are the bad guys, we should not forget the good things they may come up with and adapt those ideas (with even more good ideas from the free software comunity). .NET is proprietary software from Microsoft, but Mono is FREE SOFTWARE built with ECMA and ISO ideas. And I actually see Mono as the true .NET in realtion to it's "filosofy" as Microsoft likes to say. True multiplatform you get with Mono, not with .NET.

I really hate this kind of atitude.. I use GNU/Linux for many years now and used from Red Hat to Mandrake, from Slackware to Conectiva and now I focus more on Debian and Kurumin - and I have always faced this kind of atitude of "slack is for real men, the others are for sissy" or "use Gentoo or continue to lame". That is just plain and simple BULLSHIT!! (sorry for the cursing, but I think it's the only word that really fits into this case). There are numerous distribuitions with all kinds of package control systems, configurations and config-tools, diferent aplications, packages, and so on and so forth. The thing is, in my humble opition, there isn't anything like "a lamer linux" and a "hacker linux". GNU/Linux is simply GNU/Linux - and I have and always had the opinion that the person makes the system, not the way around. (thou many like to use Slack because it is "l33t" - go figure!) So, my final note is: Everyone has diferent tastes and needs, and has it's own way he likes to use his own computer so there isn't anything like "Mandrake rox and Debian sux" - just that for some people Mandrake is better, and for others Debian is the best choise (and so forth)!!! GNU/Linux is, after all, all about choise - so why curse and bring down others that choose diferent from us??

I for one have 3 email accounts: a personal one, one for my work and another one where I receive my lists and all the junk, and I do get ALOT OF JUNK. Even though I don't really have any problems with virus or spyware, the spam over email is a real pain in the neck and even though there are many initiatives to strike it, it is (at least for now) still getting the better of us. If it continues like I really can't even think what will become of us all (in the terms of virtual lives and tecnology)

That's a real problem.. Users aren't educated to do regular updates, probably not beeing their fault as they think that having the anti-virus is enough. I think that it is our work as computer-scientists and tecnitians to educate everyone we can, and also the work of software companies like, say, Microsoft, to try to educate and populate the idea of regular software updates. Even if I don't think that would change alot, many people I know that KNOW about that don't really give a damn about it (and they HAVE computer-related jobs). It's amazing what lazziness can do to a person... :/

I guess that for those types of conversations you need to do in an instant fashion (from informal conversations to some interviews or even the planning of some project) is better over an IM, but there are still many things that only email can do for you (delivering Curriculuns for example, or requesting some sort of more formal response). I do use alot IM, but I also do check my email twice a day.
