  1. M$ is too stinkin' proud to ever do a Linux distro on Microsoft/Siemens in Joint Linux Venture? · · Score: 1

I really see the culture of corporate arrogance getting in the way of any move towards embracing Linux. I think that they would rather go completely down the tubes (which, it is sad to say, is almost completely unlikely) then even release their pathetic, expensive Office suite for Linux.

We'll be seeing more of this M$Linux hoax from time to time, and until we see the slick $2 billion add campaign, it won't be for real. But it's not going to happen. They would never be able to live down all of the press and web articles that would berate them for uncompatibilities and perversion of the Open Source ideals. Plus all of those of us who would laugh our collective asses off at the idea that they could actually sell copies and/or their presumed abandonment of their payware crappy server OS.

If M$ ever even endorsed a freeware OS, think of the money they would lose: A typical little server has to have $800 worth of base OS, $2500 worth of client licenses, $800 worth of decent backup software, $500-$5000 worth of usable remote access software and another $5000+ worth of remote windowing client software just to have the same functionality as a $2 Cheapbytes version of Linux.

They wouldn't throw this kind of profit away just to make a few pennies on Linux.

They'll just have to think of some way to explain it to the one-brain-cell types on the school board.

BTW, I live in Kansas, and am mostly a Republican. A pro-choice, atheist, evilutionist Republican, but one nonetheless...

  3. What is the capacity in minutes of a CD with MP3? on Canada Taxing Blank CDs? · · Score: 1

It seems to me that this tax is undefinable. Say you put 650MB worth of MP3 on a CD, and assume that it was 2MB/min (I don't know what the compression ratio is, I don't use MP3's) The capacity would be 325 minutes. At $0.49/15 min that comes out to $10.60/blank CD. Plus the other taxes. Am I wrong? Comments?

  4. Get an IBM S70... on How to Build a Clear Computer Case · · Score: 1

It comes in 2 or 3 really nice HUGE black cubes.

So what if it takes 3 lines of 220V 3 phase power; you can stuff 32GB of RAM into it and it can go up to 114 PCI slots. Not to mention the 12 processors. Too bad it doesn't run Linux yet...

  5. Not all of us are nutcases =-] on Evolution is a Myth in Kansas · · Score: 1

As a Kansas Republican, I take a little exception to your post.

Actually, I'm more of a libertarian. I think that for the most part, Christians are idiots. Maybe make that ignoramuses.

I just think that it is sad that the only political party that has a sound fiscal policy (i.e. 'butt the hell out') is one that has the totally ridiculous right-wing, bible oriented, pro-life policies.

Creationists are mostly uninformed about that which they are arguing. Most of those morons know what stock breeding is, they just refuse to see it as evolution (which it obviously is). Artificial selection it may be, but it _is_ evolution.

Evolution is 'changing the gene patterns of a population over time'. Period. That is all it claims to be. You can believe in natural selection (if you have a functioning brain) or you can believe in Lamarckian heritability of acquired traits, or even something as stupid as divine intervention. I personally don't care what a moron believes.

It bothers me when I talk to otherwise intelligent people who have said things like: 'I accept all of the evidence, I just don't believe in evolution.' Other than that, he's a normally functioning human. Weird, huh?

I've lost my point, but it's in there somewhere...

  6. Do you actually care??? on Sony to produce more AIBO & more bots · · Score: 1

I don't understand why anyone would want one of these stupid things. I mean, I like technology for the sake of technology, but shouldn't something be at least slightly useful?

To me, this ridiculous thing is classed in the same league as those idiotic 'virtual pet' keychains you see the 4 year olds dragging around. Just plain silly.

Don't people have something better to do with their time and money? Like donating to charity, perhaps?

These things are going to end up sitting on a shelf, collecting dust within weeks of when the customers get them. IMHO, wait 2 years and you'll be able to get a better one for 50 cents at a garage sale.

    These are a fad!
