You ave to be notified in writing (Snail mail, probably registered).

The EFF's laywer(s) will be there. If this thing gets any bigger i'm betting they will volunteer to defend the everyone as a group (unless you wat your own legal counsel)

This is only an injunction or something like that to get them to force everyone to remove all traces of DeCSS from their sites. They will use it as backing for their next crusade if they succeed.(it may be that they are planning on building legal ruling upon legal ruling until they have case law that favors them for the final, costyl battle)

Oh, by the way, I am not a lawyer. I don't even know a lawyer.

A beowulf cluster might be applicable in this case, unless you plan on using one machine per pilot, and have them analyse their own data.

The requirements are much less per machine (usually only a processor, memory, and sometimes a harddrive (depending on how much memory is required).

It almost looks like the intended use will be a virtual playback of the flight for general analasys/review.

I would probably reccommend consulting with VA Linux. They have experience with beowulf, server, single/multi processing systems, and they offer support (it can be helpful if you want to actually get things done, instead of learning in depth about the internals of linux.)

It will need more people, but I think we may be reaching a stage where we as a collective would be capable of at the very least designing such a thing. (building it is another story)

The only thing getting in the way as best I can tell are a few good opensource development tools. Is anyone aware of any virtual simulation environments of real world devices that are available? Basically something that can be used to test designs (at least the mechanics).

Personally I think they should get the patent. An algorithm is innovative (noone else has done it yet, and the big search engines have been out long enough to come up with it on their own).

As best I can tell it fits into their business plan. They won't sell ads, but i'm betting they are planning to license their search technology. All they need is to license somehting unpatented and have someone reverse engineer it and sell it without paying licensing fees. This is just the thing that a patent is supposed to prevent.

Something new should be created to protect software. Hybrid copyright/trademark/other rules. None fit quite right.
