  1. Re:They still don't get it on Reasoning Behind The KDE League · · Score: 1

i'm not sure why im replying to this.. but anyway.. i gather you've never read Neal Stephenson's book "in the beginning was the command line"? if you had then you would realise that un*x has all these little things for a reason - microshoft has said this a thousand times - to make your life easier. what would you rather type in, day after day after day, Applications or bin? and yes, un*x is case sensitive too, so there's a happy mr shift in there too. etc, you know what that means? 'etcetera'.. and that's exactly what all those little files in that directory are. un*x has evolved into this state to make hackers lives easier. it isn't wrong, far from it. its taken 20, 30, years to get to this stage. if people haven't got half a brain to read and understand, then they shouldn't be using it in the first place! they should be using windows, or macos X (which does have what you propose, an /Applications directory, a /Settings directory - which i think are just symlinks to /bin and /etc anyway - but that's macos, a graphical OS). i know my argument isn't getting anywhere; but i think you really should read 'in the beginning was the command line'.. it's a great, historical, read if anything.

    uhm.. why? =)
one of the main reasons i escaped from windows (aside from the stability issues) was the fact i found the GUI ugly. i cant explain it, but i just find it terrible.. the win3.1 gui was nicer imho; win9x just felt clunky.

    anybody else share these feelings?

actually, over here in england there are quite a few robots on "Robot Wars" that have titanium armour. this years batch of robots are probably the best ever. i always miss the bit where they say how much the 'bot cost to build though.. =o

i've seen that. they made it a movie or tv program or something. can't remember its name.

mayeb i'm thinking of something i saw on discovery channel, about a mars trip and what would happen if there was a solar flare and the constant bombardment of solar winds, etc.

hurraah! That is some of the best news ive heard today. well. it has been a slow and crappy day.. but still.

pcmcia was a bitch to setup on my vaio. basically because it never said anywhere and when i upgraded the kernel ppp stopped workin! aag! but hten i noticed.. heh..

but strangly the ppp in linux on the laptop doesnt seem as fast as in windows. ibet theres prolly a resonable explanation for this (such as.. it is the same speed, but windows is lieing or other such type of answer in a similar vein).

Still.. this is very good news. i am looking forward to 2.4.0... maybe isdn in 2.4 will be better (noticed quite a few changes over the 2.3.x changelogs..).

just my late night drunken ramblings.. and my £0.1/minute (of course) =]

Just to chuck in my 2p...

Since I installed E CVS .15, and kept up with the CVS updates, i havent had any errors, except for the odd bad code, or memory problem which makes it segfault.. but this is _development_ software, you cannot expect it to be stable all day, everyday... And back to the bad code, if you wait around for a while, a fix is always up..
ANd for me, E is pretty small, especially if you run Strip on the binary.. and (gee.. i love that word ;) speed is pretty good... only if i have netscrape running do i see any kind of slow down, speed in E has increased a lot in the past few weeks...

Thanks a lot guys, E is just kickass!
