No, if you rent a single CD (not one CD but a single release containing about 4 songs) from a rental shop in Japan, you'll pay about 150-200Y (1.50$ to 2$ american), maximum. Most people in Japan (well, thats an overgeneralization: I mean most Japanese people I know) have MD players. MD is HUGE here. I dont know why Sony bothers with this whole "download one song off the net" garbage. It's easier just to rent a full length CD (about 300Y or 3$) and then copy it onto mini disc. Thats what a large majority of people and I do anyway. Why pay 320Y to download ONE song off the internet when i can rent the ENTIRE single or full length CD for under 400Y (4$) and copy it onto MD without losing any sound quality?
I am constantly growing tired of hearing about "such-and-such" caused "so-and-so" to do "this-horrible-deed". When are people going to be held responsible for their actions? Blaming sick people's actions on anything from games, to TV, to (even our beloved friend) the internet has been a nice skapegoat for the press and people to say "Well, I'll be sure to look out for that." I'm sure that whoever that man was, he would have done the same thing regardless of whether he had played alot of duke nukem or doom, etc, etc. Plainly, this man was sick.. Instead of governments, parents and societies blaming people's actions on things that (i beleive) have no relevent baring on their own "free-will" actions, other steps should be taken. The Brazialian governemt has wasted time, money and manpower on banning things that are just going to become easily attainable through the internet anyway. Why not instead do they invest more time, money and manpower into finding ways to help people who are afflicted with these sorts of mental illnesses. I remember when Ice T's "Copkiller" album was released, and it was banned through-out a large portion of North America.. Any police shootings that happened afterward were then blamed because the shooter "had an Ice-T album." Wake up. People do horrible things because they want to, not because they see or hear them in games, TV music, etc.
Don't knock Canadians.. I will assume from your email address that you are British, so I would also care to remind you that Britian is FAR behind Canada in many aspects of "high-speed technology". I remember when i was still in jr. high (around 10 years ago) they were building fiber optic telelphone lines that spanned a huge chunk of our nation.. As I recall, that never happened in England until years later, if it has yet at all.:) Excuse any rudeness in this note as I'm sure you can understand: I feel angered by some cheap pot-shot at my country by an misinformed, ignorant troglodyte. Canadians excell at MANY other things that just hockey, bub, and taking some cheap potshot at one of the World's quieter and more humble nations isn't cool.
I remember the Visionaries. Yup, little He-Man look alikes who had holograms on their chests and special "magic" machines.. I found it amusing anyway (I think I was like 6 back then, dont laugh). The book sounds intriguing: Looks like its just sold another copy.
