    You could also take a look at your hosts file - If your run windows it is %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts or on a *nix based OS it is /etc/hosts. The hosts file bypasses normal DNS queries and is sometimes used by spyware/adware to hijack your connections. Try using a product like adaware or another spyware removal tool if you are running windows.

    I am just a poor sysadmin looking for a new job this Christmas season, but I will say that the health of the founder of my favorite Linux distro does help to keep this a happy holiday season.     Install a linux system at home (I prefer SlackWare), then perform an install of linux from scratch. I think its probably the best teacher out there as you actually see what components are getting installed on the system and get a little of the why. There will probably be some intricacies in whatever distro you pick but that will give you a very solid background. Also, pick up Unix power tools from somewhere - learning the tools inside that book is a better education then any class I ever took.

    It is always a nerve-racking thing to have to tell someone high up on the org chart that there is something wrong with their company, but it is something that is usually valued - especially if there is a barrier, such as a budget or a technology, that is causing the problems. You are always opening yourself up to risk when you speak up where others might not, but one of the few things that I remember from my college finance classes is that risk usually= reward
