Will the idiot culprits that allow this gross waste to happen PLEASE get their heads OUT of their asses?!?!?!
A TRILLION dollars? Are you kidding?!?!?!
I can think of LOTS of far more important needs that would be well served with a quarter of that! Education! Health Care! Social Security! Jobs!
What good can come out of spending ridiculous amounts of valuable money and resources just to build killing machines?!
What about upgrading F-16s for less money? And how about drone tech?
Am I blind to something here? Am I naive? What am I missing here?
Lockheed has swindled to get the project when Boeing had a much better plan.
It made no sense that Lockheed got the contract in the first place.
I say to lock-up the criminal creeps that cause these foopas! Get them OUT of a position with the control of these things.
The Earth has already seen a number of extinction events, some due to climate change. It is widely believed this current climate issue is the fastest climate change we are aware-of. Coral may well not be capable of evolving fast enough to survive; even with our "help". So, let's be careful to not let what appears to be a "whew!" moment fool us into thinking we don't need to act on climate change ASAP.
I have had more issues corresponding with AOL users than any other. Random issues of emails simply disappearing or showing up a day or 2 later. Perhaps Verizon can fix AOL. If not, perhaps AOL-ers can be migrated to Verizon accounts!
I know I'd want to look out of a window while I travel - no matter who or what is driving.
Perhaps there will be options to press a button and turn your window into a movie screen. Or a holographic computer monitor to klak while you drive, or, even better, game while you drive!
HEY! I said it first!
...it is any entity bent on hijacking too much control of it that needs regulation!
There is the infrastructure that needs to be maintained (and fairly funded).
Use of it is not the same by all entities. So, does it make sense to charge accordingly?
Consider the highway system as perhaps a relevant analogy.
Generally, major toll roads tier toll rates based on usage; big trucks generally pay more than passenger cars for the same route. Trucks wear out the road much more than passenger cars.
Likewise, small private users that check email and occasionally browse websites use far less bandwidth than, say, moderate-to-larger private users that perhaps stream movies and or game a lot.
Similarly, corporate users also vary in needs.
So, it seems to make sense that the more you use, the more you pay.
Would you be okay if Netflix paid the same rate as you do, even though you may not even subscribe to Netflix.
It is important to keep the perspective in full context.
ESPECIALLY for the politicians pushing legislation.
THE POINT:
Do the politicians REALLY understand the full context of the issues?...enough to make well-informed decisions?
Do the people that may get to vote on legislation affecting the aspects of a system also have adequate knowledge to have a say?
If we were to fix the corrupt capitalists, perhaps many other things would, indeed, take care of themselves.
And I digress from here!
What if a suicidal remote pilot shows up for work?

Remote piloting opens up another problem: murderous remote pilots. Now they can survive a crash to cause another!
Well, perhaps not with outright electrical zaps to the brain, yet with other means like a deluge of mind bashing TV ads? The way that ads target aspects of human psych not related to the product being sold seems to be a similar tactic to convince one to buy a product; which seems to be unduly offensive and unethical. THIS is an area that needs severe regulation.
There are a few thoughts along this line:
- Base time on a basic cosmological constant - perhaps the period of a basic elemental or physical constant.
Then, we regularly calculate the change in Earth's rotation and factor that into the daily calcs for sunrise
and sunset, and live accordingly.
- Screw ANY constant. Base 'regular' time on a percentage of actual Earth rotation, constantly updating
common cronographs (watches), dividing the day up into set portions. Perhaps mid-day is when the sun
is directly overhead (like it theoretically is now). Thus, mid-day -to- mid-day period changes at the
current rate of 1/1000 of an hour. When the rate changes, as time will gradually do (barring a
catastrophic event), lives can also gradually follow the change.
Could it bee? What pollinates oaks? Perhaps a CCD-like ailment is happening to the oak pollinators as well. And, perhaps a CCD-related mechanism is responsible. Designer pesticides?! Thanks, Monsanto! (NOT!)
Oh, and I can see it now (scenario at an accident):
Officer: Do you own a cell phone?
Crash-ee: Yes.
Officer: Were you using it at the time?
Crash-ee: No.
Officer: Is MS Windows installed in your car?
Crash-ee: Yes.
Officer: Were you using it?
Crash-ee: Well, yes. I was trying to decipher some oddball estimate reported by the GPS unit regarding time remaining to get to my destination. It was varying wildly!
Perhaps the insurance industry will take this viable opportunity to add surcharges to a policy on a vehicle running MS crap-ola; the risk being, of course, the severly increased chances of a 'crash':-) -- even though it is said that the Win OS will not share the same network as the more critical auto functions (brakes, etc...). (Give it time, though!) There already is the tendency for Win OSes to demand more attention than reasonable; more, I can confidently say, than a cell phone demands; and look at the accident increases caused by those!
Seems to me that it is generally more the language USER (or a language's use), rather than the language itself that falls short. A craftsman, for example, need not be limited by the tools at immediate disposal; rather that a craftsman could find, or even create, new tools to satisfy needs - for expression or functionality. Perhaps it is a Darwinian thing!
On a serious note: computer languages also fade into history. And, just because a (spoken) language goes away doesn't mean that the cosmos will suffer irreparable impedence to evolution. It is more likely that culture may suffer the greatest loss, along with the indications of a society's perceptions of 'reality'. Meanwhile, viva la pioneers in free and unusual thinking!!!

Cool! How long would it take to get there? ;-)
We would likely need to keep 2 clocks: One based on a constant period, and another based on events related to Earth's rotation.
There are a few thoughts along this line:
- Base time on a basic cosmological constant - perhaps the period of a basic elemental or physical constant.
