This post is coming pretty late in the game, but worth a shot. For all of the biological engineers out there, how many times have you been asked what a biological engineer is? What kind of reaction do you get after telling them? I'm a bioengineer (UofG) and I've been asked by a number of people just what exactly a biological engineer is.
Arc'Teryx makes some of the best backpacks out there. Sure, they are are not at the forefront in office gear, but you are not after office gear. I recently purchased the smaller Blade 21 for a colleague who was getting sore shoulders from supporting so much weight with only one shoulder. - she absolutely loves it.
Personally I own an Arc'teryx Bora 65 which I use for Backpacking, its unbelievably comfy and considered one of the best in the business.
The one comment people have on all Arc'Teryx gear is its price. It's usually very high priced compared to the competition (Blades are CDN$100+) but I think that you will find that it is worth every penny, my gear has.
I see that you are awry of using suction cups (I would be too), but what about some high powered magnets. I've used them thar neodymium magnets to hold up some pretty heavy things, place them on either side of the glass, epoxy one of the magnets to a mount, homebrew or otherwise. I could see an issure with 'slippage' down the glass with the magnets, but maybe some rubber (nice sticky silicone) sheet would keep things upright.
Maybe they could wait till the batteries start to run out of juice before they attempt the double backflip into the crater. That way if it rolls or tips or otherwise self destructs no their will be no missed opportunities (sorry, i couldn't help the pun). That said if they wait before they go into the crater and the batteries die just as they are finding something interesting they'll be beside themselves.
Yeah sure, there is some humor to this comment, but I haven't bothered wasting my time with wireless PC stuff for that very reason. Wireless Keyboard and Mouse? - need batteries for both and have to have a set of backups for each when they go dead. What I would love to see is a connection that sends both the signal and the power through one wire. One wire to each my printer, cable modem, sub-woofer, router, cat etc. all coming from my computer. Whoopee if I need a bigger power supply, it will sure beat the octopus that I have plugged into my wall. I like that I can get a bit of juice out of USB but some more would be awesome.
I cut my computational teeth on WP5.1 and it was good times. It was always a pain when the shortcut templates would get stolen/destroyed/eaten (this was elementary school) but eventually you figured it out. Trial and error always seemed to work too.
Then came the WYSIWYG-esque applications and the game changed. All of a sudden I had this digital piece of paper in front of me, I have a task bar, I have instant access to IM, email, everything I want and then some. For what I do, I don't need access to everything at once and most of the time I don't need to see the would-be finished product in front of me, but I have it and my productivity suffers as a result.
Long live WP5.1 and the need for print preview

Seriously though, good presentation is paramount to any communication. In the case of the web, using CSS is a good way to present your information.
If you want your information to be read/seen/heard, present it well, target your audience. This being said, theres no point in making something look pretty if the content is non-existent. You have to have the substance or else you're wasting people's time
The only thing better than something that works well is something that works well and looks good. With CSS, if users don't like the way you've presented things at least they have the option of changing it to some degree.
of being forced, by our most recent technological devices, to learn how to effectively use a pen/pencil as a communication tool. Maybe the next round of technological advances will demand that we speak using proper grammar! egads!
Just think of the issues that would be raised after a major emergency that could not be reported "I tried to call 911 but I couldn't connect..." That's when things would really start to hit the fan.
They can see a situation like this coming and they're trying to nip it at the bud.
Assuming that the person on top of the craft would truly be the pilot and that the mass of the pilot is not insignificant to the overall mass of the plane - any control system used would have the very fun task of having to differentiate between forces exerted by the pilot's hands/body to remain balanced on the craft and the forceful inputs (ie lean left to turn left) required to control the direction of the craft.
Imagine holding on for dear life, getting a hand cramp, leaning over to distribute your weight to your other hand and the aircraft making an unintentional hairpin-turn/dive.
WEEEEEE!!!!
That's the mental picture I get of the whole thing.
