Where did you get this impression from? Toyota and Honda both publicly spoke out about this issue when it happened. Cars need parts, many of the plants that make parts for GM also make parts for the other manufacturers. If GM suddenly stopped ordering that would have killed or massively increased prices on the rest of the car companies and well as parts manufacturers.

The GM situation was not as simple as one company going under.

I'd like to say the current administration is better than the last one in that they haven't repealed anymore environmental regulations but they haven't put the Clinton era ones back in place that were stripped away either so it remains to be seen where they will ultimately stand.

As a regular citizen you don't get to control where your power comes from, the government certainly does have this power which is why it makes sense to call this complete and utter non-sense to their attention. You seem to think the climate change debate isn't already a circus side show? It's been a circus for a decade now.

This stunt serves two purposes, calling attention to the absurdity of the climate change debate, and assuming you're right, it will call attention to how screwed up the checks and balances this country was founded upon have become.

The truth like most things in life, lays somewhere in the middle. You have to be able to tell a kid he or she has done something wrong or incorrectly but you should take their feelings into account when determining the best approach which of course is not the same for every kid.

That is the root of the education system, with standardized tests and lawsuit happy parents thinking that treating every child the same is the best approach. Some kids need tough love, some kids are harmed by tough love, without the ability to adjust tactics accordingly there will always be kids that slip through the cracks.

At any rate, you should have learned in high school that the air can hold more water at higher temperatures. There is of course a saturation point but we're not yet in Vermont. Here in Arizona now we might be close to the other end of the spectrum as our summers have progressively been getting dryer and dyer as it gets hotter.

I've had this same argument with many people that think hard work is all it takes, pointing out that when they started their business they had to have some luck to attact enough customers to get the ball rolling.

It looks to me like you and your friends live a very sheltered life. While I'm doing well, have almost no debt these days, and live comfortably, I see many who aren't so lucky.

Even while I was in college, from the first year to the last year tuitions almost doubled, since then they have continued to double. So while I was able to dig myself out of college debt through low interest subsidized loans, that's no longer practical given the cost of an education these days. This is largely due to a fundamental change in which people need to get educated. When I was in college, I went to one school for the whole time and got my degree. This is no longer possible for anyone that isn't wealthy. Now you start at a community college to get the rounded education and then transfer to a school with more resources to get the targeted classes you want to take.

Unfortunately, millions of students were trapped between the old way and the new way and were left with crushing debt.

Combine that with attacks on planned parenthood and a myriad of other aid programs and you have yourself a whole lot of people getting desperate. Desperate people can, will, and do make a lot of noise about the issue. Loud enough apparently to be heard all the way in Australia.

As a final note though, it isn't as bad as a lot of the media makes it out to be. It's just a very real problem and doubling down on failed strategies isn't going to dig us out. It's all well and good to say times are good for yourself and screw everybody else who didn't have the same combination of luck and success. I know I worked hard and became successful, I know many many people that have worked equally hard and only met failure.

I wonder where this idea that teachers shouldn't be part of the lives of students came from. I think all the media attention has overblown the issue so far that people think teachers should just be robots regurgitating facts and giving standardized tests. I remember growing up and teachers in high school would stay late or be part of extracurricular clubs. Hell, I learned Linux through a work shop, we'd all bring in computers and throw on Slack or Red Hat back in the early days. It wasn't an issue for our teacher to be there, he lined up a lot of resources for us.

As for "needing to friend," no one needs to friend anybody but a lot of people do it and it's a great way to collaborate on homework for schools that don't have the resources for real virtual assistance services. More to the point though, why not? How is a teacher accepting a student as a friend on Facebook detrimental? As stated before, as long as any student who asks gets accepted there is no appearance of impropriety or favoritism.

This looks like another administration stab at limiting liability rather than trying to protect students or teachers. Fear of lawsuits is the biggest problem with public education, it's also a huge issue with the healthcare system driving up costs for both.

Whether or not you use your house it contributes to the neighborhood either negatively or positively. The seller value of a house is often determined in part by the houses nearby and what they've been selling for but also the condition they are in. Additionally, a house whether or not you are using it will appreciate in value. You have the option to borrow against this higher value. On top of all of this, property tax is almost always a city tax. In Vermont, my local school received most of its funding through property taxes.

Should property taxes be modified so that people that maintain their houses pay less while those that don't pay more? It's hard to say, people that don't keep up their house as well as others are probably not as well off so you would be disproportionately harming poorer people. Seems to me like the current strategy is at least fair. Of course that again depends on which city you're in. Different cities in different states probably vary wildly from my admittedly limited experience.

Its not really an attack vector because your create peering agreements with your providers and they are each responsible for holding up their own end of the deal. As disruptive as BGP errors whether malicious or through fat fingering are, it's not really that big of a deal to fix once the problem is identified.

I would think a DNSSec like infrastructure could help remove the possibility of malicious route modifications but in the end, if it's state sponsored then any system can be broken by even the proposed solution.
