I have a unique perspective on this problem as I do shows as well. The idea is, you have one set of access points that provide service, one set that monitor, and one set for active interference with rogue APs. When a rogue AP starts broadcasting you blanket the exact frequency and change neighboring service access points to channels that are on the other side of the spectrum. This works great in practice against regular people popping a linksys when they only pay for one Internet connection.

It won't work for a malicious attacker of course as you'll need to eventually locate the rogue AP and shut it off otherwise the offender will just keep changing channels forcing neighbors to change channels and thus causing disruption.

No, actually, you are the moron that clearly hasn't received care through the ER without insurance. Hospitals have funding issues for a variety of reasons including extremely high costs associated with collecting from insurance companies. In addition to this extremely and painfully short-sighted view you also completely ignore costs of preventative care. Only emergency medicine has these treatment requirements after-all. Some communities fund vaccines and other preventative measures but for the most part people are on the hook for their own medical expenses. Why get regular cleanings, you can live with that cavity because without insurance you're going to pay out the ass for care assuming you can afford it. Same goes for vision care and a myriad of other situations.

A friend of mine was hit by a truck and he lacked insurance, he was on the hook for a million dollars because the truck dragged him taking pieces of his leg every inch of the way. He either declares bankruptcy and the hospital doesn't get the money or he sues the truck driver to recover the costs. Those were his options. As a result, insurance for the truck driver is now higher, lawyers made a ton of money, and the hospital eventually got what was owed to them. How on earth can you defend this?

I was lucky enough to grow up in a family with health insurance, now that my sisters are old enough to have families I see the situation has changed rather dramatically for the negative as they look for ways to insure their kids without the thyroid condition making insurance prohibitively expensive. This is stupid, if we pooled our resources and turned human life from a for-profit industry to one that serves to better the community we can all live better lives and pay less for insurance for those of us that do have it.

Perhaps, more to the point, we can then achieve what most other nations accomplished 30 years ago. I have no idea how socialized medicine became so demonized.

I would like to know how this point of view became so prevalent. The libertarian rhetoric is fascinatingly blind to how people actually behave. Web development work is a hot field even today and skilled people make bank, just like I do as an IT manager. There are a lot of people out there working very hard and not making progress due to external factors. If you only knew Frontpage then yeah, you saw your contracts coming up empty, but if you progressed and kept up with modern developments you continued to do very well.

Sub-prime mortgages were stupid for regular folks, for investors it was great though as it drove up the housing costs forcing more people into sub-prime deals because it's the only way to get into a property. It's easy to say such people should rent their home and a great many people do. The problem is that not all houses are up for rent so people have to buy in order to find an affordable place.

Predatory financial industry practices have forced up the cost of almost every product we consume, notice how banks got into oil futures and surprise, now the price of gas is triple what it used to be. There is plenty of blame to go around, some people were plain dumb, regulations of the past were put in place to save people from themselves, then the laws were repealed and we found ourselves in a post-2000 economy.

When you have millionaires and billionaires throwing their money around, expect competing with their spending power to be very difficult. Especially when they are well organized.

This won't be a huge change for me as I already administer almost everything from administrative workstations and not directly on the servers. If you're deleting all emails after 30 days then that is sufficiently different from the norm to make it look like your business is trying to hide or destroy evidence. This has caused problems in lawsuits as well. Appearances are everything when it comes to a lawsuit.

As for disabling internal email and only using IM services then presumably we're not talking about Windows Live or GTalk. We're talking about Windows Messaging or OpenFire or any type of centralized IM services which all support logging. This is less efficient than email though in my opinion.

  8. Re:8 to 5 on Volkswagen Turns Off E-mail After Work-Hours · · Score: 1

The type of job greatly determines how successful this tactic can be. In most positions email is preferred specifically because there is a documented trail of communication so when one company agrees to do something it's not just a verbal agreement. Internal communications you can probably get away with this but in this litigious world the more evidence you have the better assuming you are on the right side of an argument that is.

I haven't encountered anyone in years that don't reply to emails throughout the day, it's better customer service as you can research your answer and not promise something you can't deliver like what often happens on the phone when someone is just trying to get off the phone.

Of course my problems are often centered around over reliance on email. When an email doesn't get delivered for any number of a million reasons they come complaining to me that they absolutely need the message, 99/100 times I can just pull it out of quarantine on a reception issue or it's the sender doing something wrong such as using the wrong email address, mistyping the domain name, or their mail server is temporarily down. In those cases I sure wish a voice call could accomplish the same thing, that's why HIPAA style secure message brokers are becoming more popular. Then you can arrange conference calls, pass files, basically do everything you normally do with email except without any spam.

We've seen companies reduce their warranty lengths before and it's a good bet that they don't know what issues they will face with manufacturing in the near future either due to flooding or due to technological changes. It is also a means for them to create a market where they support a smaller set of "Enterprise" customers while consumers only purchasing individual drives will see their support shrink as they mostly just cost the manufacturer money after the initial purchase.

First, Adobe is dropping flash entirely due to pressure on developers leading web creation to html 5, this made sites like Youtube have to develop massive new infrastructure to support iDevices, infrastructure that was never necessary given the presence of Flash on Android.

Second, You are not forced to have separate iPhone/iPad apps but in most practical scenarios this is exactly what happens and you can see it plain as day in the App store. This is also the reason I've been forced to develop three versions of my mobile app. One version for Android, one for Iphone, and one for iPad. On the Android side it has always been easy to adapt screen sizes and has only gotten easier as it was built to do just that.

Third, I stated SSL VPN which you might notice is conspicuously missing from the Apple support link because most SSL VPN solutions are Java based. This would include Cisco's SSL VPN offerings.

Lastly, I have no trouble hooking my Android phone to my car or gym equipment, if you want to count control abilities then I'll concede integration is behind the curve except for the fact that everyone I see with an iPod/iPhone adapter in their cars still controls everything from the iDevice itself and not from the stereo since there is usually incredibly limited visual integration. Naturally an iPod will charge in my car as well while an iPhone will not.

Of course my car also has a USB port which I can plug my phone in and charge without issue, no special adapters or cables required. Bluetooth or audio cable to my stereo and away I go.

This fracturing exists but is not nearly as prevalent as portrayed. I wonder why when I install Market apps on my tablet it looks the same as on my phone? hmmm.... compare that to the iPad experience and you end up making a separate iPad version of your app. I've dealt with this for some time since my mobile app is basically a product catalog with ways to find said product at our event which is pretty sizable.

I have also not encountered an Android phone that did not support flash or h.264 acceleration. People putting up with the lack of flash on iOS continue to amaze me. The same goes for Java. As a result I had full SSL VPN capability on my Android phone pretty much from the beginning while the feature is still lacking on iOS, at least from a Sonicwall perspective because NetXtender is a Java based product.

All of that on top of the fact that most new Android devices support uPNP for streaming to tvs and receivers negating the need for proprietary iDevice docks. You see all the accessories as a good thing which I find strange.
