I think the point is that, viewed with no ad blocking software, the most prominent download link is a big green button with "download" written on it (that installs one of the usual suspects).
You or I wouldn't just click on it and agree to everything that follows, but it would not be a difficult mistake for your dear old granny to make if someone you trusted had actually said "go to the Imgburn website and download it from there.".
The only reason for holding elections is to choose another government.
That is a staggeringly stupid thing to say. Elections don't get you a new government. They get you new talking heads in the old seats. Same government, different stooges.
Elections are for choosing officials, not choosing governments. Try speaking English.
Not everyone lives in America. For better or worse, in Europe there is a much wider range of political flavours in governments, from very extreme left wing to very extreme right wing, whereas in America you just have two versions of very right wing.
Since I had to go and look it up "Pilkunnussija " is a Finnish word for grammar nazis (literally comma fuckers).
Someone slipping an unintelligible foreign word into an English post is far, far more irritating than any pedant correcting your apostrophes. It is impossible to work out what they're talking about
I don't know century you are living but I haven't had a land-line in years. Everyone I know has mobile phones and caller ID, any unknown numbers just don't get answered - problem solved
Dinnertime calls ended years ago when Governement passed the Do-not-call list act making it illegal to call people on the official list
We have something similar in the UK, but I still get quite a lot of unwanted sales/marketing calls on my seldom used home landline. They just use call centres based outside the UK, which at least makes it easy to spot them with caller ID.
There's no such thing as an income disparity between men and women. If women really were getting paid 3/4 what men were for the same job, companies would be trying to hire as many women as they could get a hold of.
I'm seeing this with my 2 little kids. Screen time just leads them to want more screen time
Once you factor in phone time, by the time they're in their early teens the only time they're not mediating their experience of the world through a screen is when they're asleep.
Double douchebad alert. Your envy is ugly. Very ugly. A bean counter in slashdot lol, or worse a Human Resources drone lol. Glad you learned how to read. The problem is that teaching some kids how to program, it does not come nearest most of our top of crop. Even in adults, there is a whole world or two of distance between helpdesk/field IT and devops or a good network architect (not the cables and phone guys again). Like in most professions, where you have the plumbers and work men, and then they guys who design the buildings and all the people between the enterprise ladder. It is only so amusing they think they will solve some automagical problem teaching kids, it is almost as they decide to teach all the kids CPR to take care of a problem of missing doctors. Even most of my colleagues in IT in faculty who did not know why they were there did not want to learn "too much" about it, so good luck with the kids anyway.
I'd have been more impressed with your wall o'text if you'd taken the time to translate it into English.
If you're genuinely that "gifted" you will do well regardless. If your classes are really too easy, you will just read around the subject in your own time.
I completely agree with you. A big part of the problem is that the best and brightest students in any particular subject area aren't allowed to advance faster than students with "special needs", because that means someone's little snowflake was left behind.
Why do people keep saying this?
There are geniuses who have PhDs in their teens, they seem to manage not to be left behind with the great intellectually unwashed.
I think the problem here on slashdot is that there are a lot of bright (but not genius level) kids who think they are exempt from the "boring" bits of school life, like studying for subjects that don't interest them, making friends and doing sports, and get annoyed when they can't spend all day doing exactly what they want to.
"(in-effect-)equal achievement" means "equal compulsion" only in some language that is not English.
(If it were simply about "equal access", most of the quoted paragraph - listing identity group after identity group - wouldn't have to be there.)
There is nothing wrong with making subjects mandatory. Compulsory English and Maths (as a minimum) seems eminently sensible to me. You seem to be using the phrase "equal compulsion" to give it a sinister sound.
Because installing outlets is such a tricky operation, right?
Do you even know how simple electrical wiring is? Black white ground. You really have to try hard to screw it up, unless you are a moron.
Yes, everybody pays trained and highly skilled trades people just because they're lazyt, the same way they stupidly pay lawyers and accountants when anyone can do a tax return and whaddya mean I'm being audited
If you want to build a start up you're better off leaving school at the earliest possible age, not going to college, and trying out your business skills by failing a few times on a small scale in the real world.
Having a Computer Science degree and a good idea does not make you an entrepreneur.
Many of the creative geniuses in know, including myself, educated ourselves in technology and other subjects. Either the teaching system couldnt handle use, or was concernerned mosty with average students.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that anyone who refers to themselves as a creative genius, isn't.
The problem with that thinking is that once you give those powers to the state, the state will use it to teach racism, fascism, intolerance, and obedience to the ruling classes. Believe me, I grew up in a country that did just that.
If you live in a fascist state, your kids are going to be brainwashed anyway. The only solution is for the people to rise up and destroy the fascist state, not wonder about what marching songs little Timmy is being taught at school.
So, is your view of education that the state should decide what is true and what is false and then force those truths upon children, even against the wishes of their parents?
Yes.
If parents want to lie to their children, they can do it at home.
PS you're supposed to say "force those truths upon children AT THE BARREL OF A GUN". Any transaction involving teh government is always AT THE BARREL OF A GUN.
The physicist who first came up with what would eventually be called the 'Big Bang' theory was a Catholic priest, FFS...
Yeah, and with a bit of creative fudging (e.g. the seven days of Genesis were actually seven "ages" or something) you can even convince yourself that the Bible is actually describing the Big Bang and the history of the universe from its beginning to the appearance of man. Sort of.
As we can't say what came before the Big Bank, it's not impossible that there was just God sitting around waiting for something to do.
Facts exist... plenty of them, for that matter. For example, it is a fact that pigs do not possess the ability to fly, insomuch as flying is considered an act of volition that is considered distinct from being launched from a stationary position relative to the ground as a projectile, or else simply "falling".
Strictly speaking, it is a fact that no pigs so far discovered possess the ability to fly. It's extraordinarily unlikely there's some natural pig-bird cross breed living deep in the amazon rain forest, but who knows?

in case you were wondering norton blows
Well it used to suck, so there's been a 180 degree turnaround.
Seriously though, Windows is actually a virus!!
Literally. "Windows is literally a virus!!"
You might as well go full retard.
The accident rate still seems to be like one meltdown a decade (worldwide) regardless of what they do. So yes it seems to have brought nothing.
One meltdown a decade is surely an improvement over one a year, or whatever it might have been?

I think some mods are missing their sense of humor. At least I hope you were completely joking...
A classic example of Poe's Law.
ChumpusRex2003: that was a most excellent fact filled reply.
So, what is your stance on nuclear power: in favor of it, or not?
Since everyone on slashdot is apparently in favour of nuclear power, I'd guess he was in favour of nuclear power.

Where I live you need a land line for broadband.

Uber and China - when they met it was moider!

Oh, well that's all right then.

This is simply theft.
Dude, it's on a computer. They're just moving 0s and 1s around. Bits just want to be free.
Are you some sort of Statist music industry SJW shill? Do you even hack bro?
